Sunday Post-NamesCon Thoughts and Updates

I don’t know about you, but it took me a couple of days to recover from NamesCon. I held a ton of meetings and had the chance to meet friends and colleagues from around the world. Despite my best efforts to connect with as many people as I could, I exchanged emails with a couple of people I hoped to meet but did not end up seeing. There’s always next year!

Here are some thoughts and updates for you, some of which you may have already seen.

  • NamesCon was fantastic. The organizers do an exceptional job of packing a ton of content into a short period of time. There was a huge crowd with people from all aspects of the domain space. If you are involved at all in the domain name business, you should be at NamesCon. Simple as that.
  • The GoDaddy Auctions bidder app is great. I bet it is going to bring a sharp increase in bidding activity to the platform. I have been bidding more, and I would imagine others who are using the app are bidding more as well.
  • I had a chance to meet with Jackson and Keith from Escrow.com, and I think their revamped beta website looks very good. I think the website makeover combined with the additional support and other changes will produce a solid ROI for the company.
  • The NamesCon auction is continuing on NameJet. I would not be surprised to see an addition 7 figures in sales closed by the time it ends.
  • Shane Cultra and Aaron Wilkin organized a great lunch during NamesCon and a ton of people showed up. I was fortunate to site next to Bill Kara, Michael Cyger, and Brandon Abbey at lunch.
  • Domain Agents and Josh Sexton also organized  separate breakfasts at NamesCon. It’s always nice when people organize small get togethers with friends to talk about business and make new connections.
  • I read a bunch of articles about the Rams online branding after their pending move to Los Angeles was announced. It looks like they are going to go forward with TheRams.com, a domain name that has been owned by the NFL for 15+ years.

  1. Thanks Aaron for lunch and thanks to Richard Lau and his team for organizing such a great conference! That jet lag was brutal though my body is still trying to catch up, I think the next few NamesCon’s are suppose to be in Vegas as well?

  2. I enjoyed Namescon aswell. I heard Richard say that till 2019 it’s going to be at Tropicana in Las Vagas. Looking forward to the next event.

Wish I had the invite too.. but looking forward to meeting up with you the next time around.

Met some incredible people at Namescon. Frank Shilling, Michael Cyger, Shane, David, Ron, Michael Berkens Richard and Jothan to name a few.. Great feeling and incredibly excited. Well done – organizers and sponsors.. Kudos to everyone who attended.
