Some Recent Acquisitions

This seemed to be a pretty popular type of article last time I posted it, so here goes again. Below are some of my recent acquisitions (private purchases and auction wins) and hand registrations. Feel free to share yours as well if you’d like.

  • StuttgartHotels.com
  • BoracayHotels.com
  • BikeTours.com
  • IndiaOutsourcing.com
  • CollegeBaseballNews.com
  • HumorForum.com
  • Sweet16BirthdayParty.com
  • InternationalCustodyAttorneys.com
  • DinnerSuggestion.com
  • GoToMonaco.com
  • ElementarySchoolTutors.com
  • InpatientRehabs.com

I also bought a name I would normally be hesitant to purchase: PaulTsongasArena.com. The concert/sports arena in Lowell, Massachusetts was named after Senator Paul Tsongas. Last year, UMass Lowell purchased the arena and renamed it Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell. The previously used domain name, PaulTsongasArena.com, was not renewed and went to auction last week.

Prior to this auction, I contacted the director of the Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell as well as the University’s director of communications, advised them of the dropping domain name and strongly suggested they renew it. They weren’t  interested  and I let them know I was going to try and win it at auction. It cost me a few hundred dollars, but I am going to redirect it to my Tsongas Center page on Lowell.com. At least it wasn’t bought by someone else who would park it.

  1. Very nice names, especially these four:

    StuttgartHotels.com
    BoracayHotels.com
    BikeTours.com
    CollegeBaseballNews.com

  2. I like the BikeTours.com, a lot of development potential…….
About my acquisions, i am concerned on development more than acquisions.
In the past one month i have bought only one domain name that is AffiliateMarketer.in

  3. Nice acquisitions indeed. I’m a big fan of ‘CityHotels’ domains (I own ChicagoHotels.co that, although not being a .com, is still an exact match domain).

    Congrats Elliot!

  4. Been reading your blog for awhile and just got most of these yesterday, I am very new to domaining and these are my first purchases. Please tell me what you think!

I contacted the director of the Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell as well as the University’s director of communications, advised them of the dropping domain name and strongly suggested they renew it. They weren’t interested

  6. @nostraskoos

For a newbie your list of names is pretty good for a first time go-around. Most people starting, out register bad, I mean really bad names.

I can look at them and know what I’m gonna find on each name.

Did you hand register or purchase them elsewhere?

  7. StuttgartHotels.com & BikeTours.com are both excellent and will attract 2 high end buyer prices if you are patient enough and get out of the quick-flip mindset.

A few of my recent investments include:

    California-Tours.com
    Magic-Cream.com
    Health-Centre.com
    ClimaticChange.com
    VanAccessories.net
    ElectronicCheck.net
    Riverwater.net
    Growa.com

  8. I have an “ikeyword” one, which I think will do really well once developed with what I have in mind:

    iInstigate.com

Next one has been earning some money while parked:

    HairPlantation.com

This next one has given me lots of positive signals and could be a real money spinner with the appropriate content on it, but I can’t go ahead with that just now for a reason which cannot be mentioned here:

    SexyFone.net

  9. @John Thank you! They all have decent key word matches from google especially skisnowreport.com (over 12,000 per month I think) hand registered most of them after watching some drop lists so they were only 7.87 a piece 🙂 allnaturalchildbirth.com and largeplasma.com I purchased for $99 each, they were my first ones untill I realized people let some really good names drop

  10. Nice pick-up on BoracayHotels.com. Boracay was just named a top 3 beach by one of the big travel sites.

I actually own BoracayRentals.com for the vacation rental market. If you find a buyer for BoracayHotels.com, please let ’em know BoracayRentals.com is available for the right price as well.

    Cheers.

  11. Seen everything left of the dot in print ads.

    Aides.net
    Sarajevo.ws

  13. @nostraskoos – not too bad for a first bunch of names, as said earlier – most people’s (including mine) 1st regs are really really bad.

I like biketours.com , that is one I could see definite dev prospects for. The others are a little awkward imo, tho some are obviously great for their little niche.

    Some recent acquisitions of mine:
drm .tv drmtv .com tvdrm .com
    dvi .tv
    usb .tv
    usb .fm
    ivf .la 🙂

    short names rock 🙂

    CarDataRecorders (re: insurance discounts)
    eAbove.com
    EstimateMyRent.com
    AgelessWorks.com
    FreeMusicConcerts.com
    HalfPriceCoffee.com

  15. DinnerSuggestion.com – Cool, very social.

I think domains are in a valley and buying now is great. Here are some of my recent investments:

M4A.com (every song on every apple device is a M4A, amazon cloud player only supports MP3 & M4A)

    TunesLocker.com
    videolocker.co
    EastRiverSide.com
    TouchStrip.com
    Linc.mobi
    MesaAttorneys.net

Like any investment, always for sale..:-)

  17. Elliot as for the arena name, not sure if I’d have picked it up. Almost screams cyber squatting and I wonder if the two people had the write to say they are letting it go or does it go higher up the food chain to the board of directors. Personally, they are insane to let it go. Hope I don’t see a lanham act come out of it.

Appreciate the chance to talk about names bought this week.
    Picked up
Blackjack.mu (just too many look ups of the word to pass on it even with the .mu extension
    also Antispamming.com at $9.00 cpc
    Bodypiercingrings.com
    kileenrealtor.com
NJrealtor.net (hope I don’t get a UDRP on that one)
business.ht (was a dead site, used whypark.com and I’m tracking 350K uniques a year right now after a few months of working on it.
    chiropracticservice.com
aaaautoloans.com (another udrp issue but I’ve been using aaamusicsearch.com for 10 years without a udrp and for $10.00, it was a no brainer)
dieselcargovans.com. Huge cpc number and traffic. $10.00 purchase
jeq.co (I’ll give it one year to sell, they you guys can bid at expiration.
    and just yesterday:
FinancialInvestmentadvisor.com (thought of two people that could use it from my business dealings)
sold.nu (I love the play on the .nu extension)
    Last:
Ventilate.me (roofing company or radiation fall out, I don’t like .me’s for normally but it works here plus Sedo’s .me auction seems to lean to it’s use also.
    Regards
    Scott Neuman

    • @ Scott

I spoke to the person who is in charge of the center and its operations (including website). He knew they were letting the domain name expire and had no interest in renewing it. Should the University want the domain name, they can have it for the price I paid, which is significantly less than the base cost for a UDRP.

As soon as the name is in my preferred registrar’s account and I can forward it to the page on my website, I will let my contacts know that I won it and the cost. The University does not pay to advertise on Lowell.com, but I promote its events and news, and I am sure they look at Lowell.com as a helpful website. They will know how to contact me, and if anyone at the University complains, I will show them my emails with the person who manages the Center.

  18. Lots of wonderful names in this thread. I look forward to seeing them in end users hands or developed!

    WeHaveIt.com

    WeBuyGiftCards.com

    FallFlowers.com

    DailysShopper.tv

    MuskyFishing.tv

  19. Really like BikeTours.com….And, I think DinnerSuggestion.com could do well with the global craze in Celebrity Chef stuff everywhere on TV….

My only purchase this past month is:

    SameAsUsual.com

  20. Elliot,

The Whois has not been updated on: BORACAYHOTELS.COM

    Registrant:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (edited by Elliot – see next comment)
    Domain name: BORACAYHOTELS.COM

however, it’s getting good appraisal from Valuate, which means very little, still is better to have a good valuate than not:

    Domain for sale: boracayhotels.com
    Appraisal value: $36,000

    Some of my recent ones:

    OMGSOLAR.COM
    4GBRANDS.COM
    HotelsCalifornia.De
    LeHotel.co.uk
    LAHotels.de
ROUL8.COM stands for roulette.com (steht fĂĽr Roulette)

    • @ Uzoma

I didn’t realize the transfer hadn’t finalized yet, but I edited the seller’s personal contact information on your comment out of fairness to him. I assume the name will finish being transferred by tomorrow or Monday.

800England.com is interesting…. any idea who owns the 800 number or how it’s used?

  21. I work with third party outfits to secure the vanity numbers, but in the case of England, I haven’t checked. Probably a person that may be interested in the domain, or they can sell me their number, I hope.

  22. The benefit of buying the Arena domain and then setting redirects to his own page which is also about the Arena is all of the link juice that was going to PaulTsongasArena.com will get passed to Elliot’s page. From the search engines standpoint they will think thats the new home of it on the web.

  23. StuttgartHotels.com is my favorite from your list.
I picked some at the auction and most of then i hand register.

    appliancedepartment.com
    bestvegasresorts.com
    coughcontrol.com
    dealsonvacations.com
    dressings.co
    homegardeningsupplies.com
    imdeaf.com
    irresistibility.com
    jokeusa.com
    lawfirmsattorneys.com
    linendepartment.com
    localtaxadvisors.com
    onyxstones.com
    partiessupplies.com
    travelnavigation.com

  24. Like your descriptive names @Elliot. But I get a real kick out of the comment sections of these types of threads. Seeing people showoff their random .TV domain names and other cctld’s makes me realize there are still so many market inefficiencies in domaining to take advantage of. Love it ! Lots of market participants but still a large portion of money flowing away from the gold- .COM.

  25. Nice names : Biketours and stuttgarthotel are the best of the lot without doubt.

We have istuttgart(dot)com and its for sale if anyones interested

  26. Just launched Tuesday, page 2 G. Not a bad start. Bought it at Sedo 2 months ago. Now it’s up to me…Unless you want to buy it 🙂

  27. All of these for reg fee today:

    boxjoints.com
    polyetherimide.com
    herbsage.com
    americansuv.com
    leadershipevaluation.com
    immigrationdetention.com
    typesofbonds.com
    vanityorganizer.com

  28. Great acquisitions!

The following are several acquisitions that I have made recently:

    AdultLoveGames.com
    JapaneseCookingGames.com
    ipod-nano-accessories.com (first hyphen)
    NYCityNewYork.com
    PrintedMaps.com

  29. @Elliot

Thanks for the info. I been wanting to dive into buying domains but I have stayed away as I get confused what a good domain name would be. I look at the auctions like on Godaddy and my head spins thinking almost every domain would be good.

  30. Here is an example. I have a domain that has the search term in the domain. I look it up in the google adwords keyword tool and it shows the competition is high and has over a million searchs a month for this search term. Would you consider that a decent domain especially if the domain is available really cheap?

I understand about free advice, just looking to see if Im at least on the right track.

  31. nice grabs, Elliot. I see all of em are .coms.

I like BoracayHotels.com mainly because I’m from the PH 🙂 Do you actually plan on building that or just have it sit there hoping for an end-user to approach you? Cuz I’ve actually thought of purchasing resort/beach-related domains but don’t exactly know what I’ll do with them aside from parking. I don’t have a clue as to how I can develop it into something simple that could probably be monetized by attracting the locals businesses that revolve around such vacation hotspots.

  32. @Elliot

The domain was actually called LosVegasHotels.net

Even though its spelled incorrectly the keyword tool for google showed high competition and high monthly searches for that term.

  33. @ Drake

I don’t think a name like that is saleable unless it makes revenue. If it’s unregistered now, it likely makes no money. During the days of domain tasting, I am sure that name was registered at least a few times to test.

  34. In the last few months…

    3MileIsland.com
    Reamortization.com
    CareProviders.co
    AirCargoTransit.com
    PsiPhenomena.com
    EliminationCleanse.com
    DCpoker.org

  35. BikeTours.com is a cracker Elliot, surely there is an affiliate offering for that somehow!

I have AccommodationBoracay.com I picked up a while back, lovely place.

  36. “I contacted the director of the Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell as well as the University’s director of communications, advised them of the dropping domain name and strongly suggested they renew it. They weren’t interested”

How much traffic do you think they lost because they wanted to save $100.
