Sedo Updates Search Functionality & Will Host a .Club Numeric Auction

Sedo just announced that it updated its search criteria to allow users to search for numeric domain names on its platform. This should make it easier for domain name buyers to find numeric domain names for sale at Sedo. The new search feature can be found in the advanced search filter options in Sedo’s search engine.

Yesterday, I reported .Club founder Colin Campbell’s tweet announcing that “[a]s of today, all 4 number names are now registered with a few still premium”. In addition to the search functionality update, Sedo also announced that it will be holding a numeric domain name auction for .Club domain names from November 12- 19. I am not sure if the domain names being auctioned are owned by the registry, and I do not have details about whether auction submissions are being accepted. Be in touch with Sedo if you have any questions.

The link to the numeric auction is here.

Here is the news release I received with more information:

Boston, Massachusetts – November 10, 2015: The world’s leading domain marketplace Sedo just integrated a new feature: a search filter that will only show numeric domain names in the search results. This is valuable for all Sedo customers but will especially impact our Chinese customers whose interest in numeric domains continue to grow at a rapid rate.

Throughout 2015, sales for numeric domains, such as 7384.com or 17117.com, have increased exponentially, particularly with buyers from China. In the last week of October, more than 10% of Sedo’s sales were domains containing numbers only.

This feature makes it easier than ever to find a valuable numeric domain name, may it be for a personal or business website or as a smart investment. For example, 88888.com was sold for $245,000, showcasing the massive resale value of numeric domains.

The new search feature can be found in the advanced search filter options in Sedo’s search engine: www.sedo.com/NumericSearch.

Sedo recognizes the upward sales trend and value of numeric domains and is seizing this opportunity to host an exclusive Numeric Auction with .club domain names, November 12- 19. Featured names are 111.club, 333.club, 800.club and many more. These domains will be auctioned off without a reserve price, so all bidders have a chance of snatching up a numeric domain at a very low price.

Visit the auction inventory page to see the full inventory and for a complete set of details about the auction.

  1. Elliot,

Thank you for featuring the upcoming .Club numeric auction that we’re hosting with .Club. To clarify this is a closed auction including only names from the Registry directly, therefore we are not taking submissions for this specific auction. There are some great names up for auction and we hope everyone takes the opportunity to view the inventory and also tries our latest feature upgrade within our search function.

    Thank you,
    Sedo

    • I’ve never been able to list on Sedo without getting this:

“Please note listings may not exceed 10,000 USD. If you believe your listing is worth more than 10,000 USD, please order an Appraisal or do not enter a specific price.”

So what does this mean? All those who have listed at such prices and beyond have really gotten an appraisal from Sedo first? I find that hard to believe. Have they also paid for this appraisal or is that free?

Let’s take their current listing of 82.org for $480,000 for example. Did the Sedo account holder for that domain really get an appraisal from Sedo first before being allowed to list that, or are some account holders not even required to get these appraisals?

Personally I consider it pointless and extremely undesirable to have to request an appraisal as a condition for pricing at any amount. I also would not want Sedo giving any appraisals to begin with, much less any I might not agree with.

    • I had meant to place this post all the way at the bottom, but just as well that it’s right under yours. Would certainly much appreciate your input on this matter.

  2. Elliot,

I have been talking internally to my staff about allocating names in auctions to domain investors. This is something we will work on in 2016.

Especially for the highly liquid names like the 2,3 character letters, numbers, and single words.

  3. I try to list a domain name NNNN.com and I put the domain price higher than $10,000 as we all know any domain in this category is worth more than $10,000 USD and I got the note below no wander the domains they have for sale is affable.

“Please note listings may not exceed 10,000 USD. If you believe your listing is worth more than 10,000 USD, please order an Appraisal or do not enter a specific price.”
Note: I will never pay for an Appraisal.

  4. Here’s a few more listed on Sedo now:

    8888888888.com $190,000
    8888888888888.com $88,888

Were the owners of these domains really first required to get an appraisal from Sedo before being allowed to list them for those prices? And did Sedo in fact give them an appraisal of at least those prices? Does anyone even believe that is what happened prior to these listings being allowed to be made?

  5. You know, to tell you the truth, I’ve never even tried to see if Sedo charges for this appraisal they demand from at least SOME customers before being allowed to list above $10k. Like I’ve said, I wouldn’t take it even if it was free, so never bothered to check. It’s occurred to me that if they do charge, that would really be the famous old “domain appraisal” scam on a massive institutional level. Must be quite a cash cow if so. Remarkable…
