Report: Ice.com Was Sold for $3 Million in 2014

In March of last year, Mike Berkens reported on the sale of Ice.com, although he did not mention the sale price. According to an article in TechCrunch about the new company operating on Ice.com, the domain name was sold for $3 million.

Here’s the relevant excerpt from the TechCrunch article about the price of the domain name:

“Ice.com, the domain, has actually been around for a while. In its previous incarnation, it was also an online jewelry store. But the older company didn’t make it through the recession, allowing the new owners to buy the domain name for $3 million in 2014 in order to set up their own shop.”

I looked at DNJournal’s sale report for 2014, and I do not see the sale of Ice.com reported. A $3 million sale of Ice.com would rank it 4th for the year, tied with the $3 million sale of Sex.xxx.

With the credibility of the reporting of TechCrunch, I presume Ron Jackson will add the sale to the list. For those who are wondering, Estibot appraises the three letter keyword domain name Ice.com at $484,000.

  1. I doubt TechCrunch verified that number. Often times when a startup quotes a number, it’s high or includes stock.

But $3 million isn’t out of the question.
