Recent Domain Acquisitions

Every now and then, I like to share some of the domain names I recently acquired. Below are a handful of domain names I bought in the aftermarket, which includes private purchases and auctions. Feel free to submit your recent acquisitions in the comment section if you’d like.

Unfortunately, all of my purchase prices are private. I am on vacation in Florida, so comment approval may be slow. Perhaps I will see you at TRAFFIC next week?

DogPark.com – Bought the website and domain name, which sees around 12,000 visitors a month right now.

Nightlights.com – My Dad owns a retail store, and when I went to the New York International Gift Fair in August, the one thing he wanted me to look for was a line of nightlights in the $20-30 range. These make popular gifts and retail anywhere from $5 – $100, depending on the nightlight. Probably will re-sell instead of develop.

WeddingEntertainment.com – I owned this name back in 2008, and I was able to re-purchase it this week. There are a lot of bands, djs, and other wedding entertainment companies out there, and I may either develop one of my directory sites on it or re-sell it.

LinkwheelService.com – Link wheels seem to be popular SEO tools, and there are a lot of companies offering link wheel services. I will probably re-sell it.

CallCenterOperations.com – When I worked at AIG, my team worked with a number of call centers. On large campaigns, we hired call center operations companies to help manage the programs. It’s a fairly small niche, but there’s a lot of money.

SciaticaTreatment.com – At 27,100, “sciatica treatment” has pretty significant exact match results according to the Google Adwords Keyword Tool. There are also several extensions developed and a number of affiliate programs.

MemoryBoxes.com – Companies sell these so people can put important items into to save them for the future.

  1. Looks like some good purchases! Good Luck with selling/developing them.

I recently acquired Appstrix.com a dropped domain thats great for the App market

    • @ Michael

Thanks… it’s doing very well on Adsense and also sending traffic to DogWalker.com…. A win/win so far.

It wasn’t cheap though, but ultimately doing far better than having the money in the bank.

  2. Some great names Elliot. Wedding Entertainment is nice for lead generation.

The only name I have picked up in awhile.

VerySpooky.com 9 year old domain that I thought was perfect for Halloween.

  3. Am on a month vacation too and was in Austin last weekend.
    Got a parking ticket.
Remember, in downtown Austin, the parking expires at 11pm..that sucks!!

    Paid $20 for the fees.

Not bought any domains except squarely.com which will develop into an app.

Remember , do not go to Austin …hot and not much to do!!

  4. Elliot,

    How are you?

Listen, do you remember when Francois of Domaining.com operated Flipper.CO for selling .CO domain names?

It appears that domain Flipper.CO is forwarding to Flipper.com, which is owned by Huffington Post, and both domains are forwarding to HuffingtonPost.com; I don’t recall reading anything about a sale or UD action. How come no bloggers covered this? Do you know anything about it?

    Thanks

  5. i have a dog myself. he’s easy enough to drive but i always have trouble parking him. this could be a great new service
because from what i’ve read there are over a thousand dog owbers in america and may more in china.

  6. @ Elliot

I asked you earlier hope you give me reply now.
Which wordpress theme did you use on dogpark.com (I know you modified it but which theme was initially) ?

    • It’s a directory theme called Classipress, and the visual design of the site was totally custom for me based on various elements of other websites I like. The layout and pages are very, very, very different than the out of the box version, and it’s been changed/tweaked a number of times over the last two years.

To head off any questions that have come up in the past – no, I have no interest in selling this design to anyone. πŸ˜‰

  7. Recent acquisition – HollywoodBeach.TV I already have a website on the .info which ranks on page one of Google for Hollywood Beach Florida and some other long-tail phrases. The acquisition was branding related as I am not a big fan of .info domains.

  8. Elliot… Nightlights.com. Seriously dude. This could be one of the best domains you ever bought.

You know the saying You can’t see the forest through the trees? Well, I think you are not seeing the big tree in your forest.

You have plenty of good domains but Nightlights.com? WOW!

    Category killer hello!!!

PERFECT for the internet… low price point, easy to ship, LOTS of designs from cheap to artistic.

Develop this one into a business. DO NOT sell it.

Drop ship, hook up with artists, electric supply houses etc.

    Just my two cents.

    Congrats.

  9. Nice names, Elliot

I like NightLights.com. I missed out on Brightnite.com was trying to get it for the same reason.

Just picked up ChargeRun.com to go with ChargeLight.com

Saw CashBusiness.com going on the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. auction, wonder how my eCashBusiness.com would do?

Love this business, always something exciting going on, very nice names Elliot.

  12. GinCloud.com can be online platform for sale of gin and tonic alcohol products. Or a bar VIP membership club or a virtual night club or a directory listing for cool small bars in Australia or the globe.

Something like that…on top of my head…

  13. Elliot,

Would you be willing to do one thing:

It’s nice of you to allow the little guys (us) to post our recent acquisitions, and I don’t think you’re doing it for traffic and ratings, would you be willing to do a domain market once for all? In essence, let us submit one or two of our domains with price, say next couple’o weeks? And see if we can actually sell domains here once in a while?

    Thanks

  14. Hi Elliot,

I hope you guys are healthy & happy!

Nice domain acquisitions mate, great minds think alike.

I own the .AU ccTLD versions of sciaticatreatment.com.au

and also these sciatica related names –

    sciaticapain.com.au
    sciaticasymptoms.com.au
    sciaticaexercises.com.au
    sciaticapainrelief.com.au

    Cheers

    Ed

  15. I like nightlights.com too, if I had this name I would have a custom ecommerce site on there and have someone shipping them out. I didnt check the stats but I dont need to, owning ‘nightlights’ brand basically for the world should easily produce enough demand to make profit.
    Recent acquisitions of mine include
    uselection/s.tv
    lottoresult/s.tv
lotteryresult/s.tv (does this really have 2.4m search??)
    ows.tv

  16. @ Uzoma

Sorry, but no for a couple of reasons:

    1) There are plenty of marketplaces out there that cater specifically to domain investors – for instance, DN Forum.

    2) I don’t want any responsibility for sales gone bad.

  17. Congrats on purchasing dogpark.com and nightlights.com. They both are going to give very good profits. My recent acquisitions are
    dressbuttons.com
    dressbutton.com
    coloredfurniture.com
    whycanyou.com
    sucidal.com
    cupice.com
    majorstudies.com
    shirtandpants.com

Can you please give your opinion on the above domains you liked.

  18. About Nightlights… the thing is, when I actually shop for stuff I mostly end up at Amazon. What would a (hypothetical development of) Nightlights bring to the table that I couldn’t easily find elsewhere? Rob Sequin mentioned hooking up with artists. Another approach (the Bobbleheads method) would be to allow customized orders. Or to approach designers to license exclusive designs. Museum and art gallery shops are a great example – full of unusual products with premium prices. It’s tricky! The perfect product/domain name for development is a niche the China/Amazon conglomerate would ignore, but which could provide a nice income if done right.

  19. @Elliot Thanks a lot … πŸ˜‰ i might follow your advice.

Everyone here are talking about nightlights, Great domain you got.
In fact i was out buying a solar light for my garden yesterday, The solar light that lights up at night. Great product i must say.
Will be nice to visit your site nightlights and to order those kind of product. πŸ˜‰

  20. You inspired me to register a few more to develop out today, the dot coms were gone, but .org works well for school stuff, was thinking of this last week when I was watching kids at my sons school with huge backpacks, gotta believe these will be shrinking in the future..

    educationtablets.org
    schooltablets.org

  21. I do like nightlights.com, so many possiblities for it.

I just picked up some cool names.

cnth2.com Stands for carbon nanotechnology hydrogen, it relates to the the new hydrogen batteries coming out soon.

    cntink.com nanotube inks

sarrating.com the amount of radiation a cell phone puts out.

I like the high tech thing, Rolf

  22. I have a buttload of great .com names but keeping in the theme I picked up LakeShoreDogWalking.com in a drop and it was a pre-existing business. It has made its $7 reg fee back already but since we have quite a few businesses here with lakeshore as they starting words, we are going to build a real business around it.
