Domainers Choice Awards Coming Back

This evening, Donna Mahony announced that she is bringing the Domainers Choice Awards back to life. Originally handed out at DomainFest in 2008, the Domainers Choice Awards have been on a hiatus for the past several years.

The 2014 edition will be sponsored by  Domain Boardroom, a  private domain forum founded by Donna. The voting will be conducted by a third party service provider to avoid any potential claims of favoritism or conflicts of interest.

The Domainers Choice Awards website gives more information about the awards:

TRAFFIC Seeking Awards Nominations

4

Rick Schwartz and Howard Neu sent out their annual request for nominations for the 2012 TRAFFIC Awards. They added a new category this year for Broker of the Year. As I mentioned last year, I think this it’s a good idea because good domain brokers bring millions of dollars of liquidity to domain owners, and not all brokers are cut from the same cloth. I think they should add a Domain Attorney of the Year category, too.

This year, nominees are being sought for the following categories:

  • Best New Monetizing Solution
  • Best Overall Domain Solution
  • The “We Get It” Award
  • Developer of the Year
  • Broker of the Year
  • Best Domain Blog
  • Sponsor of the Year
  • Domainer of the Year
  • Domain Hall of Fame

Nominations are due back to Rick and Howard by  6pm EDT on Wednesday, July 25th. I have been nominated a few times and won a TRAFFIC Award once, and it’s an honor to be nominated and selected by my peers.

The 2012 TRAFFIC conference will be held October 7 – 10 at The Ritz-Carlton in Fort Lauderdale Beach, Florida.

Go Daddy Nominated for Stevie Awards

0

I learned that Go Daddy was nominated for two Stevie Awards in the Customer Service Department of the Year – Computer Services category and the Best Use of Technology in Customer Service – Computer Hardware, Software, Services, Electronics, or Telecommunications category.

According to the award website, “The Stevie Awards for Sales & Customer Service honor and generate public recognition of the accomplishments of sales, customer service, and call/contact center professionals worldwide.”  There are dozens of categories in which companies in different industries and of different sizes are competing. Judges for the awards come from some of the largest companies in the world, like Microsoft, AT&T, Marriott, Canon, and many others.

Just yesterday, I wrote a comment about Go Daddy’s customer service team. Although I think it’s sort of tacky to quote myself, I wrote “for people without reps at Godaddy, the company has great 24/7 US-based customer service. I can’t recall ever being dissatisfied with an issue at GD.”

Companies also competing for the Customer Service Department of the Year award are: Reputation.com,  BUMI, CenterBeam, Datapipe, and and Rosetta Stone. Companies competing for the  Best Use of Technology in Customer Service – Computer Hardware, Software, Services, Electronics, or Telecommunications include CrunchTime! Information Systems, L-com Inc., OnStar, Rosetta Stone, and VIZIO, Inc.

Congratulations to the company on this honor and good luck to them. It’s nice to see the company honored with these nominations.

Voting for TRAFFIC Awards Open to Only to TRAFFIC EMail List

8

If you’re wondering when you’ll have the opportunity to vote for this year’s TRAFFIC Awards, it’s likely that you aren’t eligible to vote. To prevent outsiders from casting ballots and influencing the award winners, TRAFFIC organizers decided to only allow votes from people who are on the email listing.

Ballots will be counted from our email database only. While nominations were open to everyone in the industry, the voting is not. No outside voting is allowed and responses from other emails will not be counted. You must return this email for your vote to be counted,” stated Howard Neu in yesterday’s email.

I think it’s a smart move, since any company or person could have previously “stuffed” the ballot box with votes from people who aren’t related to the domain industry. Similarly, a company with many employees could have voted many times for their own company. Not only would that have influenced their own category, but it also would have had repercussions in other categories in which employees or others would have voted.

If you did receive yesterday’s email, your vote must be returned by 5pm EST this afternoon for it to be tallied.

Vote Today for TRAFFIC Awards

Last week, Rick and Howard announced the TRAFFIC Award nominees, and I am honored to have been nominated for 3 awards (thanks to whomever nominated me). Emails were just sent to the TRAFFIC mailing list asking people to submit their ballot by Wednesday (tomorrow) at 8pm Eastern US time to be counted.

One vote per category (except Hall of Fame) more, will result in the ballot not being counted. To vote, send your ballot to nominations@targetedtraffic.com. Winners will be announced Tuesday, October 19th at 10AM at TRAFFIC South Beach.

2009 PostRank Domain Awards

Mark Fulton at DotSauce wrote a post about PostRank a few weeks ago, and I thought his write up was very good. It’s an interesting website for sure, and it was neat to look around and explore. There is a category for domain name blogs, and it currently has 25 feeds included (I am not sure how to add feeds).

The rankings in the Domain Name category change weekly I believe, so there’s no real reason to post the current standings for domain blogs as they are fluid. However, at the beginning of 2010, PostRank doled out awards for 2009, and I thought I would share the results of their rankings:

Most Influential: Rick Schwartz’s Blog

Biggest Mover & Shaker: Domain Name Wire

Top 3 Blogs: The Domains, Domain Name Wire, Elliot’s Blog

I do think the results are a bit flawed because they didn’t include some of the best known and most widely read blogs such as DNJournal. I think the results for 2010 are going to be interesting because it seems there are many bloggers who are active social networkers, especially   Twitter and Facebook.

I don’t know who pays close attention to PostRank’s results, but if you rely on advertising revenue to support your website, it’s another way to show that your website is engaging to its readers and those people who visit. Advertisers like to have placements on websites where the readers are actively engaged.
