WWYD: One Word .CO or Two Word .com?

14

Trenton Hughes posted a domain name question that drew more than 50 replies in the last two days. Trenton is launching a business called UnFounded Ventures, and he asked for feedback about which domain name he should use. The two domain name options, which he appears to already own, are UnFounded.CO and UnFoundedVentures.com:

My personal opinion is that he should go with the brand matching UnFoundedVentures.com domain name for the business website. There are several reasons for why I would choose this option.

What Registrar Would You Suggest for a Friend?

One of my wife’s friends called me today to talk about a domain name. She mentioned that she is thinking about starting her own business and had a domain name in mind that was available to register. She wanted my opinion on what domain registrar to use.

A question like that is simple for me. More often than not, a friend or friend of a friend will seek me out for help or guidance about an impossible to buy domain name or one that is extraordinarily valuable when their budget is limited. I am sure you deal with those kinds of buyers all the time, so at least credit is due for getting educated before making inquiries.

Sandbagger Secures Sandbagger.com for 6 Figures

I learned about a 6 figure domain name sale that hasn’t yet been reported. A hard seltzer company branded as Sandbagger has acquired its brand match Sandbagger.com domain name for $100,000 USD. The domain name was purchased via Afternic. This domain name sale was shared with me by an industry colleague I have known for many years who wishes to remain anonymous.

Sandbagger is an Ontario, Canada based company, and it is operating on the Sandbagger.ca ccTLD domain name. From what I can tell, it appears the company is operating a website on both Sandbagger.com and Sandbagger.ca. I am unfamiliar with this brand, but perhaps that is going to change following this domain name acquisition.

Cabot.com: UDRP Panelist Made the Right Call

0

A UDRP was filed against the Cabot.com domain name at NAF. There are more than 1,000 companies with Cabot in their branding listed on LinkedIn alone and there are 46,000 people results. That alone should indicate the wide usage of the Cabot term. The Cabot I am most familiar with is a cheese company, and it was not the complainant here.

The complainant in the UDRP is Cabot Brand Co. Ltd. Just looking at that alone, I wouldn’t know which Cabot company is filing the UDRP. The domain registrant did not respond to the UDRP. Despite this, the UDRP was denied.
