Wedding Entertainment (.) com

While planning my wedding, I decided to develop WeddingEntertainment.com. Initially, I tried to sell the name, but I couldn’t find a buyer quickly. With my experience planning a wedding, I decided that I would build a site to increase the value of the domain name rather than settling and reducing my asking price for a quick sale.
I got in touch with Rick Latona who told me about his new rapid website development service. Using some content I had written as well as a logo I had created, Rick’s team built a website for me in less than a couple weeks – probably closer to a week. While the site might not win any design awards, it has improved the CTR and is accomplishing its goal.
With the support of Rick’s team performing various marketing activities to help support the new site, I am seeing some positive results – all of which couldn’t be achieved by parking the domain name. In fact, currently, the site is listed on the first results page for MSN. More work needs to be done by me to make the site read better, but it’s gotten off to a strong start.
All in all, I think the new service is a reasonably priced way to launch a website on a domain name that has value, but just needs some TLC. While parked, the RPC for WeddingEntertainment.com was somewhere around $1.50, and I am seeing similar adsense results. There has been an increase in traffic, and I am beginning to see some SE traffic from Google. This has led to an increase in revenue, which obviously increases the value when I decide to sell the domain name/website.
For more information, check out AEIOU.com or drop Rick an email. Now that the entertainment for my wedding has been well-executed, it’s time for the honeymoon!

Geo Domain Expo Award Semi Finalists

The semi finalists for the 2008 Geo Domain Expo Awards have been announced, and voting is now open. Voting can be done directly on the Associated Cities website. It’s great to see the leaders of this rapidly growing industry being rewarded for their hard work. When the industry has evolved 5 and 10 years from now, these people will still be at the forefront – they have the best domain names. It’s hard (or impossible) for newspapers and other publications to even compete with these names.

Domain Auction Marketing

Name Intelligence’s DomainTools has something like half a million registered users, and the company blog has an Alexa ranking much greater than any other industry blog, so I applaud Jay Westerdal for the marketing effort he is putting forth for the upcoming Domain Roundtable conference auction. While many industry auctions seem to rely on emails and press releases announcing the domain names that will be auctioned, Jay has been writing up mini-reviews for some of the better names that are due to be auctioned in a little over a week. As we get closer to the auction, I anticipate seeing more auction names released.
While the ideal marketing effort would be to distribute informational kits about each domain name to potential end-users, I think Jay’s effort goes above and beyond what other auction houses do (he may already be marketing to end users behind the scenes for all I know). With auction commissions reaching up to 20% per sold name, you would think auction houses would really be marketing the domain names in auction to get the best prices for each name. I think this is a great step.
Since end-user businesses should be able to justify spending the most for a domain name, they would be the most likely target. I look forward to the day that domain auction houses market certain generic domain names to the potential end user audience. Educating end users on why they should purchase a generic domain name to support their marketing and branding efforts will be the key to fully unlocking the true value of generic category killer domain names.
If you still haven’t signed up to attend the Domain Roundtable conference, you still have a few days to do so. If you vote in the Name Intelligence User Choice Awards, you will be given a coupon to save $50 off the registration fee. Although it says the voting ends 4/11, it doesn’t look like it has been disabled yet, so you might want to check it out ASAP.

After DomainFest Glow

0

I returned from Hollywood late last night, and I have nothing but positive things to say about DomainFest. From catching up with friends to meeting people for the first time, it’s great to see so many people excited about the domain business. I don’t know of many other industries where the tradeshows and conferences are filled with the brightest industry leaders walking the floors, making connections, and talking about ways to advance the industry, and that alone was worth the price of admission.
I am still in shock, but I would like to thank my readers for voting my blog the Best Domainer Blog in the Domainers Choice Awards. There are so many great domain blogs now, and I still can’t believe my blog was chosen… WOW! As I said while accepting the award, I can’t believe how lucky I am to be able to wake up every morning, doing what I love – and being able to write about it. Speaking of the DCA, I have to mention that Donna and Sally were absolutely glowing, and their husbands, Mahony and Barry, looked very “Hollywood” in their tuxedos. It was a popular event, and I am sure it will remain popular, as it’s the only industry achievement awards where domainers can choose.
If you’ve never been to a domain conference, I highly recommend it to anyone in the industry or on the industry’s peripheral.   Whether its Domain Roundtable, TRAFFIC or DomainFest, you really can’t go wrong. When the audience was polled at one of the panels, close to half were attending their first domain conference. I would bet that almost all of them were happy they attended the conference. Whether the goal is socializing, networking, learning or dealmaking, DomainFest had it all. I hope to write more about the conference, but I have to run to an appointment.   More to come later…

Sincere Thanks!

I would like to thank my colleagues in the domain industry who casted their votes for me in the first round of the Domainers Choice Awards voting. Because of you, I am listed among some of the domain industry greats in the “Best Domainers Blog” category and the “Domainers Rising Star” category in the final round of voting.

I post in my blog every day because I love discussing everything related to domain names. I have learned so much along the way, and I love to share what I have learned. Every new endeavor is a learning experience, and I am happy to give a helping hand. Many people feel isolated in the domain industry, and the more we communicate, the greater the chance of growth within the industry.

I sincerely appreciate your casting your votes for me in the first round. It means alot to me.
