NYC Encourages Voting with Voting.NYC Domain Name

The City of New York has been using a .NYC domain name to promote the local election which happened today. Domain investor Larry Fischer, a New York City resident who has been in the domain business for many years, shared the photograph of this bus advertisement that is encouraging people to visit Voting.NYC.

When you visit Voting.NYC, you can see a sleek looking website that has information about the current election. It also serves as a resource to send people to other websites for further information about the election and voting. Essentially, it looks like Voting.NYC is a marketing tool to help inform people about the election and get them to vote.

Interestingly, the tagline on the advertisement and the website is “NYC Votes” which is different than the url. NYCVotes.com is an undeveloped domain name owned by a third party that has been registered since 2008. I don’t think the .com domain name was needed for this campaign. I am a bit surprised they did not add a “www.” or “http://” in front of the url to ensure people understand that Voting.NYC is a url. Even if a viewer didn’t know Voting.NYC is a url, it would still get the message across to prospective voters.

Thanks to Larry for sharing the photo and allowing me to publish it!

  1. .nyc is seen a lot in new york.
And government is certainly embracing it a good deal.
Voting.nyc was huge, on subways, banners, and parts of subway stations.
