NamesCon Warning: “Hotel Scam Alert”

NamesCon organizers sent out an email this morning with a warning for people regarding  a “hotel scam alert.” To my knowledge, I have not received any type of cold calls or emails from third parties about booking my hotel room or other travel arrangements, but I appreciate the head’s up that was given.

Here is an excerpt from the email I received this morning:

It has come to our attention that past and present NamesCon attendees are being contacted by cold callers misrepresenting themselves as agents for NamesCon and the Tropicana Hotel. If you receive ANY call regarding accommodations during NamesCon, please do not share your personal information or payment details with them. There are numerous online complaints stating that they charge hundreds of dollars in “booking fees” onto your credit card.

All bookings for NamesCon should be processed through our online booking page at http://namescon.com/hotel/ to ensure you are part of the NamesCon room block (you’ll receive swag and other goodies straight to your room!) and that you safely access our special room pricing.

I am looking forward to attending NamesCon in January. I am also looking forward to attending THE Domain Conference in a little over a month. Hopefully we will get a chance to connect at one of the upcoming domain conferences.
