NamesCon Auction Details and Submission Info

With the NamesCon 2018 conference a few months away, the domain name auction is starting to take shape. Monte Cahn from Right of the Dot is helping to organize the auction event, and he shared some details about the auction as well as some information about submitting domain names to be sold via auction.

Monte shared these details about the types of domain names that are being sought out for the auction:

“I am looking for the best super premium .com names – meaning key words, dictionary terms in proper tense, N, NN, NNN, L, LL, LLL, etc. These will be at no and low reserve to drive as much bidding competition and bidding excitement as possible.

Although there will be some new TLDs, we will not get most of those from submitters, some will come from the registries and some from registrants but we will not allow any names with premium priced renewals or crazy tiered pricing, etc. But point is, that I am not looking for new TLDs from registrants yet for the auction – just super premium .com names for now.”

The auction will be run using NameJet, and the live auction will be held on January 30th at 4pm PST. Bidders can bid via NameJet online or from the audience at NamesCon. Monte is expecting to include between 100-110 domain names in the live auction. The extended auction, which includes domain names that didn’t sell during the live event as well as a large group of additional domain names, will run for ten days following the live auction. Monte told me that All closings and processing will be handled via Right of the Dot and NameJet.

For those who are interested in submitting their domain names for consideration, Monte said to use the following link: http://rotd.com/auction-submission/. That page has the more information about commission fees, exclusivity period, and other terms and conditions. Obviously anyone interested in submitting names for consideration should be sure to read the full TOS before submitting domain names.

If you have questions about the auction, you should direct them to Monte, NamesCon organizers, or NameJet GM Jonathan Tenenbaum.

  1. I think this is a great strategy by Monte. By focusing exclusively on these premium domains, the auction will be so much better and create much more buzz. I look forward to being there.

  2. Super. Premium. Dot com. Low or No reserve. 25% commission. lol. I guess it’s a good auction IF you cant wait for an end user, the problems here and i have both participated in these and been there in person, is that there are very few end users, but plenty of bargain hunter domain flipper/investors. Prices in past haven’t qite impressed and coupled with that commission ( thats a premium you’re paying for getting your name exposed) can kill the bottom line. Dont forget to consider your uncle sam and state commission as well (if you’re a US seller). Just be careful.
