My Picks for the Domain Madness 3 / Boxcar Auction

DomainMadness.comThe Domain Madness 3 auction being held on the recently re-launched Boxcar.com has opened for bidding. The live auction will take place on April 5th in Las Vegas. You need to be registered at Boxcar to bid, and there’s a $1.00 fee to register, which is presumably to ensure that you have a valid credit card.

I am still 50/50 on whether I will be at the event, and if I’m there I will try to cover it live for you. Bolded below are my favorites for the auction.

I don’t have any domain names listed in this auction, and I didn’t do any Whois searches to see if I know the owner.

  1. How does someone with list BaseballGame.com for 20K with a straight face. People who do ridiculous things like that neeed to be discouraged from listing names.

Then they list BaseballTicket.com for 10K. I mean, at some point someone needs to step in and put a stop to this nonsense.

These are names that the seller would not pay even close to 10 percent of what he/she is asking.

    Pitiful.

“I mean, at some point someone needs to step in and put a stop to this nonsense.”

MediaLocker.com with a Estibot appraisal of -0- sold overnight
for over $18,000 at Afternic. I guess some company wanted it
for a project and were willing to pay for it.

In comparison, BaseBallGame.com @ only $20K sounds like a bargain to me!!

  3. “How does someone with list BaseballGame.com for 20K with a straight face. ”

Probably the same way the guy who sold GamesForGirls.com for 500k did/does.

  4. That name has way more value than at first glance. Think of a product or a video game – for which ‘baseball’ sells VERY well as an action game.

And I do ask that before bashing a domain, consider the owner and if you were that person. Just a consideration is nice.

  5. The owner of that name would never pay 10 percent of what he is asking. How about people start listing names where they might even pay 30 percent of their asking price.

Is that too much to ask? The people selling most of those names would never in a million years suggest to someone in their family or someone that they care about to buy those names for the prices listed.

They are looking to destroy someone financially with a name that looks close to being worth something. This is a common domainers ploy. Just like idiot names like Real Estates and Pokers. People think they can get away with listing their garbage.

They could care less whether some unsuspecting new domainers gets crushed. The key to business is to sell a product that you would actually buy yourself.

It is attempted theft, basically. People trying to sell names for 50 times than they would be willing to pay themselves. That is not good honest business.

    • @ Not in this lifetime

Are you implying is that there are a bunch of uninformed people (new domainers) with money burning a hole in their pocket who show up at these domain auctions, and they’re taken advantage of by unscrupulous domain owners who list their prices very high, and they bid on said domain names simply because they are listed for sale? Makes no sense to me and seems illogical.

As far as I am concerned, if names are overpriced, they won’t sell – period. I also believe that people who don’t do their research and homework should not be investing in domain names. It’s one thing if a financial advisor or brokerage invests a client’s money in securities in which the client is uninformed. It’s another thing when willing investors spend money.

If I go to South Beach and lay down $750,000 for a 2 bedroom condo sight unseen today, am I the idiot for investing in something I know nothing about, or should I blame the real estate developer who sold it to me?

Further, as someone who is anonymously posting on my blog, why should anyone believe a word you say? What are some of your domain names and success stories?

  6. And LastMinDeals.com for 4K? That is a reg fee name. How about ForexCurrency.com for 17K? That is borderline criminal.

There are some decent names on their that actually make sense at or near the prices listed.

    BetterBody.com 4.5K
    BigWinner.com 5K
EliminateDebts.com 1.5K (though almost a theft attempt, since it is much better without the S).

Here is another joke…Waikiki.me for 1.75K

JobResume.com for 7.5K is redundant as hell. What other kind of resume is there? I am sure it gets zero traffic, so the seller wants to find a sucker to unload it to.

  7. @Not in this lifetime

Welcome to the real world-there are always SUCKERS in this world and born every second. Are you one of them?

Domain business is just like any other business—Suck that guy/gal out as much $$$ as you can.

Domain business is just a BS business – a game like poker.

remember this..all Website is full of BS…it is redundant info wanting you to buy something

  8. I wonder what Waikiki (dot) com would go for? I am sure it would not be $1,750. How about … RentHome (dot) com instead of the (dot) net for a $2,500.

Some people just have big dreams!!!

  9. @Dan – where was RefinanceCalculator.com available for $7k? Estibot has it valued at $912,000 and based on the comparable sales below I think $30k is a steal. Calculator domains are gold for those in the lead gen business. Just ask Innovation HQ – the owners of MortgageCalculator.com.

    reversemortgagecalculator.com $40,000
    loancalculator.com $215,000
    salarycalculator.com $30,000
    paymentcalculator.com $35,300
    mortgagecalculator.net $39,122
    autoloancalculator.com $35,000

  10. What I don’t understand is how Afternic will not allow you to list at domain above $10,000 unless you order an appraisal. I don’t believe MAAC dot com was worth $64K. How can they determine many bad domains to be valued at over $10K.

You can’t trust a custom appraisal when every domain company uses a different criteria. It’s ridiculous. I wouldn’t spend a nickel on an appraisal unless a buyer requested it to close a sale.

  11. We’ll probably see another overpriced camroulette dot com-related domain at this Domain Madness 3. Such a waste of money.

OnlineTheft dot com is a good domain. The domain can work for domain theft, privacy issues, credit card theft, and other personal information stuff. There’s good potential with building the domain.

  12. Oh man … I like auction action…… and they did such-a hefty marketing & promo effort over the past month for this Vegas Gig…..bummer
