Memorial Day Sunday Thoughts and Updates

It’s Memorial Day weekend, which is a holiday weekend in the United States. Memorial Day is a day to honor the memory of people who lost their lives while on active duty in the United States military. I wish you a nice and meaningful weekend and thank you to those who have served.

Here are some thoughts and updates for the weekend. As always, your domain industry thoughts and updates are welcome.

Thanks to all who have supported our fundraising efforts as we raise money for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Karen and I are riding in the 2015 Pan-Mass Challenge in August, and we have set lofty fundraising goals. I have raised over 25% of my fundraising goal so far, and I sincerely appreciate the support! Dana-Farber is a great organization, and any amount you can donate would be appreciated.

Charlie Gilbert wrote a thoughtful article last week. When you are thinking about doing business with a company or person in the domain investment space, it’s a good idea to ask for references and check with those references. You should also do your due diligence about the person or company. Don’t blindly trust what you’ve read. Ask questions. See samples. Use your noggin’!

There are many deals I regret not taking. There are also many deals I am glad I didn’t take.

I write about obvious things sometimes because there are many people who don’t seem to find these topics obvious. For instance, registering common trademarks and trying to sell them to the company is foolish. Although I think many people who read this blog are very knowledgeable about domain investing, there are also a good amount of people that don’t know all that much aside from going to GoDaddy and using a coupon code to speculate on some domains.

Changes are coming to weekly brokerage listings articles. I’m tired of seeing horrible names I wouldn’t take for free being listed for silly amounts of money. If you only visit my blog regularly so you can list one domain name for sale a week and you’ve never sold a name here, perhaps you should change your approach to investing in domain names. Maybe it’s not everyone else who doesn’t get it.

I am putting the finishing touches on LakeWinnipesaukee.com. Hopefully it will be ready to go live on Monday or Tuesday. I spent quite a bit of money to acquire the name and I finally set aside some time  to create it before the Summer. Should things go well, I can use the same theme for my other NH domain names. When people ask what I do for a living, especially people from around where I live, it’s nice to be able to show them a relevant example. People know Lake Winnipesaukee, and I am proud to own the domain name and will launch the site when I think it’s ready.
