Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer Talks .NYC

I want to share the video below that appeared on the Manhattan Neighborhood Network (MNN). It is a roundtable discussion with Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, and the topic of the discussion is the new .NYC domain extension. The program originally aired on television on Sunday, October 5 at 7:00 pm, and  I am not sure how many people watched the television show.

There were three panelists in addition to the Manhattan Borough President:

  • Ana Guzman from Neustar
  • Betsy Bober Polivy from ideways.nyc (.NYC Founders Program)
  • Ken Biberaj from The Russian Tea Room (.NYC Founders Program)

The panel discussed what the new gTLDs are, how .NYC domain names can be used (and by whom), how .NYC came about, and how some companies will be using the .NYC domain names.

I lived in New York City for ten years, and from my understanding, the primary objective of each Borough President is to promote their borough. This is an elected position for each of NYC’s 5 boroughs, and Gale Brewer is the Borough President for Manhattan, following her career as a member of the City Council.

  1. The nexus requirement prevents me from registering any even though I partly grew up in NYC and spent some of the most important years of my life there, and really want to be able to register some. I will not engage in trying to use people I still know there to circumvent the policy and reg on my behalf either. Anyone who does that is behaving very badly and doing the very kind of thing that gives us all bad name at times.

  2. The blog software did not publish what I put in brackets in my last post above with a forward diagonal before the closing bracket, html-style: “Forced smile under the circumstances”

  3. Elliot…This was great…thanks for posting it. With all the tiny ma & pa businesses in Manhattan, this is quit a feat to reach out to them
