I am someone who generally waits until the last possible moment to book a trip. It tends to cost me more in the end, but I always worry that if I book a trip too soon, something will come up along the way and ruin those plans.
Yesterday at Ad-Tech, I bumped into Jeff Kupietsky, CEO of Oversee.net, and we had the chance to speak for a bit. After speaking with him, I realized that DomainFest is just a few months away – February 1-3, 2011 in Santa Monica, California. It’s a little less than three months away, which I hadn’t thought about.
Three months may seem like a while, but it can be a good time to purchase airline tickets, not to mention that you can expense it in 2010 along with the hotel. I did a bit of research, and the flight from NYC to LAX is just $299 round trip on JetBlue, which seems very reasonable. American also has a similar schedule and pricing, but they don’t have Direct TV. Depending on where you’re coming from and the price, you might want to track airfares using Farecast.
I am probably going to book my flight and hotel soon, and I want to remind you that DomainFest is coming up.
I am trying to decide whether or not to go. I’m leaning towards going. But like you usually do, I will wait awhile to make arrangements and that will probably be a financial mistake.
I plan on going but how do most people get from the airport to the event? Do I need to rent a car or does the event have sow kind of shuttle. I’m going but I’m used to going to cities where I can taxi everything ie Chicago,Ny, las Vegas

I think it is about the same as a cab ride from Midway (Chicago) into downtown, $30 as I recall. I believe that is about the same kind of fare as LAX into Santa Monica.

Shane, Anthony is right about the taxi. Santa Monica is not far from LAX. I usually rent a car in LA because it is so spread out, but there really was no need for one at DOMAINfest Global (unless you want to leave the show and visit a lot of other places around town). During the week DOMAINfest provided transportation to all of the off site events.
I tend to book hotels/flights as early as possible (prices are better and you also don’t haveto worry about the host hotel selling out). I booked the DOMAINfest Global 2011 hotel back in June (as soon as the show dates were announced)! They sold out quickly last year, so if you want to stay in the host hotel best to book early.
Regarding flights, I fly Southwest a lot and if you have to cancel with them no problem as you get to keep the full amount of the fare in your account to use the next time you buy tickets – no penalty at all (unfortunately not the case with other airlines). Love JetBlue and wish they flew from here (Florida) to LA but they don’t – our JB non-stops only go to the Northeast. Look forward to seeing you and Elliot at the February show.
