Made In America: Smart Domain Strategy

I noticed that people were mentioning this is “Made in America week” , as described by the President. When I saw this, I was curious about what I would find on the exact match MadeInAmerica.com domain name. I presumed it would be unrelated to the President’s initiatives, but I wanted to see what was there.

It looks like MadeInAmerica.com is currently in its beta phase and under development. According to the website, it has a pretty substantial mission:

“Our long term goal is to have a noticeable effect on U.S. GDP. This will be through partnering, promoting, and manufacturing highly innovative products Made in America.”

Aside from the cool looking logo, I was also impressed with the domain strategy that seems to have been employed. “Made in America” is a pretty common phrase, dating long before the current US POTUS declared it “Made in America week.” There are some additional terms that have similar meaning that are also commonly used: “Made in the USA” and “American Made” are also common terms. It looks like the founders of the site (or people affiliated with them) smartly own additional domain names:

  • AmericanMade.com
  • MadeInUSA.com
  • MadeIntheUSA.com

Politics aside, these are valuable domain names because they are meaningful to a large audience here in the US. These terms resonate with a large percentage of Americans. I grew up in the 1980s and 1990s, and I recall a big push to buy American-made products. I would imagine this type of marketing has been done for many decades prior to this.

There are many great products that are made in America. It looks like MadeInTheUSA.com  offers some of these products for sale. It’s a neat concept and a smart domain name strategy.

  1. “BuyAmerican” is also one of the top best phrases for that.

And speaking of “made in America,” let’s not forget the great sleeping giant itself:

    .US

The giant may yet awaken soon.
