Lowell.com is Launched

There is still some work to be done, but I am happy to announce that I have launched Lowell.com! While my developer and I are still working out some of the kinks, we are at a point where we are able to release the first version of the Lowell.com website. I know it’s not perfect and many tweaks will need to be made in the coming days, but this is all a learning process for me, and I hope the launch of the site encourages others to develop some of their domain names.
There are still some grammatical, SEO, linking and other various issues, but I am comfortable enough with the presentation to launch it. If you notice anything funky – be it grammar, punctuation, spelling, links…etc, please be kind and drop me a note. This is my first “real” website aside from my blog and corporate site, so the learning curve is still pretty steep.
I would like to thank everyone who helped me by giving fantastic advice and recommendations. I really appreciate it. And to those people whose emails I haven’t responded to in the last couple of weeks, I apologize. Feel free to send them again and I will try to respond more quickly.

Thanks! I think it’s fixed now.

  3. On fun facts page, link for “New England Culture Fest” is 404 page lowell.com/new-england-culture-festival.html

Should have been linked to lowell.com/new-england-culture-fest.html, which is now fixed. Thanks!

  4. Hi Elliot, loving following the development story, congrats on the launch, the site looks great.

One suggestion, why no Lowell.com newsletter? I’m signed up to a local email newsletter here (putneysw15.com) where I live and they cram useful info and forum posts and it reminds me to visit and participate on the site from time to time. Also, they cram a few ads in there too.

Great suggestion. It is something I plan to roll out down the road along with a forum and classified advertising section. All of this will help create stickiness which is essential. Thank you!

  5. Elliot,
The site looks great. Congrats on the launch and on Burbank.com
What was the affiliate site you recommended on your Lowell Blog for travel/airline reservations? (Your Lowell blog isn’t working now).

  6. This page is missing the CSS or something… lowell.com/restaurants/arthurs-paradise-diner.html

    ***UPDATED BY ELLIOT***
LOL… working on that page at the moment šŸ™‚

  7. Elliot,

Congratulations. The site looks great. Great launch.

I like the ideas mentioned above for a forum and newsletter type content to create stickiness. Other content providers, such as local bloggers or connections to the local newspaper can always help as well, as I’m sure you know.

It’s great to follow a story like this and add a city to the list of “Cities I would never know of otherwise, yet would now absolutely go to if I am in the area.” Can’t wait to visit someday.

    Conor

Thank you! I have a news blog that isn’t up and running yet. I plan to not only write about some of the important local news stories but also about local sports stories – especially related to the high school. It would be neat to establish a relationship with LHS and have a local contributor šŸ™‚
