I was looking at GoDaddy Auctions’ most active auctions this morning, and it looks like quite a few strong keyword .net domain names are in expiry auctions. Some of the keyword .net domain names that are in the list of most active auctions include the following .net domain names:
- Dive.net
- Prize.net
- Sail.net
- Clubs.net
- Subscribe.net
- Exotic.net
- Newsletters.net
- Brutus.net
- Somewhere.net
It looks like auctions for these domain names end in a little over three days. Although the recent GoDaddy Auction changes would have made these domain names past the point of renewal if they were registered at GoDaddy, I am not sure if that is applicable for these Tucows registered domain names.
In my opinion, if these were .com domain names, the total value of these domain names would be into the seven figures. For instance, Prize.com sold for $100,000 back in 2010, and I think that domain name would be worth more than $100k today.
As of the time of publication, the total value of the high bids is less than $5,000. Because of the amount of time remaining, I would be very surprised if these domain names don’t sell for 5 figures (assuming they can not be renewed at this point).
I would not want most of those even at reg fee, and would avoid like the plague with any competitive bidding.
That comment doesn’t make any sense and seems to be hyperbole.
If you could buy those names above for reg fee and then flip them at auction right away, you would have already made close to $5,000 just based on the current high bid alone.
So yes, unless you don’t like money, you would want most of those at reg fee. 😉
Hold my (root) beer while I look into this a little further…
Okay I have sampled the auctions. I did say “most.” Some I would definitely want at reg fee. As for the most, I don’t think it’s a shaky tree limb to suggest betting that only domainers are bidding, and are simply making a mistake buying crap. Then the issue becomes what guarantee is there such bidding will always occur. For the time being, however, I suppose it would. But if I saw ones like dive, brutus, sail, exotic, newsletters, somewhere available to reg, I simply would not even bother or consider it worth doing. I’m open minded to rethinking that, however.
* i.e., “somewhere” as in including that one.
I will say this, however: this may actually be an occasion where thinking more like an end user than a domain seller is a slight liability for me, though normally it is an asset and advantage. I have a .net that I use as an end user, and I look at those more as an end user than as a domain seller. To me as an end user they are mostly either crap or just a bit better than crap, though I can certainly also see how the right end user might be able to do something nice with them too.
I can not fathom how the john can be serious. Regardless if he thinks they have value or not others do and are putting their money behind it. that said anyone that bought these at reg fee would make a multiple of their investment with NO risk. IF john is a smart guy then he just doesn’t want more bidders in the auctions, If hes not then he may be serious. No offense john just my opinion.
I personally like prize.net
Well jeal, I guess Rick Schwartz and Snoopy and Richard are not smart then either… https://domaininvesting.com/daily-poll-would-you-buy-top-net-keyword-domain-names/?replytocom=926854#respond
P.S. jeal – I don’t know how much more candid, considered and communicative one could get than what I’ve done here either. Saying what I mean, meaning what I said, acknowledging what I have acknowledged, and expressly practicing an open mind.
I agree with you john, i dont like .nets just saw a quick flip cause other bidders see value and would buy it.I myself let my one word .nets expire as their value in my eyes decresed dramatically to a point they werent worth renewing. I also see domains in the eyes of an end user as i opt to develope, sell to an end user, but rarely ever flip.
