How Wikipedia Makes Money

Did you ever ask yourself, “how does Wikipedia make money?”

Here’s an interesting video I found featuring Jimmy Wales, founder of Wikipedia, who discusses how Wikipedia generates revenue without implementing a traditional advertising model. Thought you might enjoy learning more about how the company makes money, especially in tough times.

  1. Google Ads on a website is offputting!

there are other ways to generate revenue.

when I visit a website, I’m looking for contents.
Specific contents, not ad links that would take me somewhere else.

  2. Thanks for the info. Had always wondered how these guys survived. Thanks again. Haven’t heard back from you, but that’s life also. Keep moving forward for sure.

    Sincerely,

  3. While you’re discovering how Wikipedia makes money, why not take the next step and find out how efficiently they spend that money?

Charity Navigator awards the Wikimedia Foundation one measly star (out of four!) in the measure of “organizational efficiency”, because the WMF only spends 41 cents of every received dollar on the program services that fulfill the charitable mission of the organization.
