  1. In terms of my own experience, the reason I have bought names with buydomains is that at least they quote a buy it now price on all names, whether it is reasonable or not. So, you can figure out if the name could match what you are doing for the price.

Most domain portfolios have an offer form on the names and then the reply is usually “We’ll sell it for $35,000” for a 2-3 word semi decent name that would go for $1,888 on buydomains so people are sick of wasting their time. And I’m talking about domainers too.

Fabulous and Network Solutions have higher prices in general than buydomains on their quotes.

That may explain some of it..not to mention they have a lot of solid names.

  2. The problem is they seem to look out more for the buyer than they do the seller. So if you sell beware…..they will sell your domain for the floor price instead of the Buy It Now price because they have regular buyers who they give the deals to and then the seller gets a sub-par price for their asset.

Also, some of them are pretty unprofessional…..as if they came from the collection industry. Just plain rude and disgusting the way the act at times.

  3. This is a great topic but I wonder why it’s taken so long for them to give away these tips and why not just post a blog about it?
btw, Will they also be doing a session on how they sell more of THEIR own domains rather than those of the AfternicDLS inventory ? 🙂

  4. I think one of the main reasons buydomains is able to sell successfully is due to their quick response and follow up skills. Regardless of their approach, you can always get someone on the phone and their email response time is typically immediate.

Fabulous is the same way. You can always get a quick response or easily get someone on the phone.

SEDO is the complete opposite, base on my experience. It is impossible to get someone on the phone and it is 100 times harder to get someone on the phone that actually cares.

I don’t think that there is a secret to selling names.

    1. have thousands of great names for sale
    2. stay in contact with buyer / buyers
    3. provide good service
    4. reasonable prices

  5. The Webinar has just finished a couple hours ago.
It was a very interesting experience and some useful tips were given from some people in the domaining industry. Some questions of attendees were answered as well.

I don’t have much experience in domaining so this webinar pointed me in other directions that need to be explored.

Good to see your blog was pointed out as one of the credible sources.

Thanks again for the usefull post Elliot.

  6. I agree regarding buy domains. It is soo time consuming having to contact everyone just to get a price. By the time you take this into account unless it is a really good buy you can end up loosing money. I have started using thebrandshatch to buy domains as they offer the price and the option to buy there and then and they are really cheap. I gave up on domains advertised as offer as like commenter says they are often rediculously overpriced as they know you are interested and as such a waste of time even considering.
