Guest Post from Ashley Forker: Name.com, Now With Mint Flavor

Name.com LogoThis is a guest post from Ashley Forker, Marketing Coordinator at Name.com. I asked Ashley to give some insight into the re-design of the Name.com website and tell you what’s new and what’s changed.

A big thank you to Elliot for the opportunity to introduce everyone to the new Name.com brand!

Our rejuvenated brand marks a new era for Name.com, we hope you’re ready for all the exciting changes and new products to come. A dedication to innovation is the driving force behind our new brand. That means you can expect a plethora of new tools, products, and features to help you find great domain names and start capitalizing on them. Our new brand is a refreshing step forward for us as it allows much more of our personality to shine through.

If you’ve done business with us in the past you’ve more than likely picked up on our casual, friendly vibe (our intelligent customer support team does not read from a script for example). Our customers also witness our inventiveness first hand by using our unique tools such as the newly launched DNS Traffic Score tool. Our new brand’s aim is to take our technical sophistication and communicate it in a less mechanical way. Our updated design feels more free-spirited and less structured, yet still technologically progressive, which is a much better reflection of who we are. In other words, we’re a little less robotic and a little more Pollck.

Our main goal all along has been to make the web more fun, more useful, and more accessible. We feel our new brand reflects this goal as well as some of the new products we’ll be launching in the coming months including an extremely user friendly website builder, a SEO tool, an iPhone app, and much more. Along with these new products we’re always experimenting and playing around in the Name.com sandbox that is Name.com Labs.

The new homepage and header/footer are just the start of the changes we’ll be making to our site between now and the end of the year. We are completely revamping our search, checkout, and account management tools to make searching, registering, and managing your domains and products even easier. Don’t worry, we know our customers love us for our simple, easy to use, and non-cluttered interface and we intend to only enhance these features during the upcoming redesigns. We understand what’s important to our customers and we’ll stay true to those core values as we move forward.

Along with these exciting product launches, we will continue with our large security initiative over the next three months. Though we already feel we’re a leader in the industry, we’ll be launching a handful of new security features and products to insure your domains and products are as safe as they can possibly be.

As you can see, we have a lot up our sleeve. The momentum around the office has been building for a while now, we felt it was the right time to update our brand to better reflect who we are and set the stage for what’s to come. Stay tuned, this is really just the beginning!

  1. Yes great new design, I actually like it a lot – so many websites are so boringly formal and stuffy. And its probably true that your customer service is generally superior (I only needed them once and they werent able to help but at least they were knowledgable and polite).
    So you can imagine my annoyance at having to transfer out a good chunk of my names in the near future from your great registrar because your renewal fees are *significantly* higher than the going rate elsewhere on certain extensions.
    I dont mind paying a little extra for your undoubtedly fine services but when multiplied by many names it adds up and becomes most uneconomic over the longer term.
    Hopefully you can look at that over the next year or so – cheers πŸ™‚

Sorry to hear however that you’re going to be transferring out due to our renewal pricing, what are the specific extensions you’re going to be renewing?   3. Hiya. I specifically mean .tv domains, for example at the daddy of registrars (forget the cents, Im not into nickel & diming) there are transfers and renewals for about $21 with the usual permo-rolling coupons, elsewhere at dynadot these are available for roughly between $21-$24 depending on buying level. Currently you are offering this at $30 or so. My names do not expire in the most part for 2-4 years so its no big deal right now but its on my mind and has definitely dissuaded me from extending the ones I will want to keep anyway.
    Great design for sure but not quite convinced its worth an additional $600 minimum per annum to me for the 100+ or so names of mine or under management by me that this affects!

    Totally hear you – I am putting together your feedback into an email as we speak. Also, if you have a large chunk of domains up for renewal sometimes we can work to get special pricing, you can email savemoney@name.com to see if that would be possible in your case.

  5. Your welcome, thanks for listening. I dont really need special treatment I just think it would be a great move because I know this big price discrepancy is definitely toward the more unusually high level given the amount of competition there is.
    If it were me Id probably leave the rack rate as is and make some coupons or something.

  6. I didn’t have good experience with name.com. Last year, I registered a domain name with them during “Happy Hours” from a drop list they provided. Just my beginner’s luck. I happened to register a dropped name that previous website owner had installed malicious software on..and I had it forward it to whypark..I think.

    Within 24 hours my domain name was taken away from me without notifying me thru email or any sort of communication. Finally, I figure out something was wrong..so I gave them a call. The rep who took my call told me that they voided my purchase because google had an outstanding complaint regarding said website with the domain name I registered.

    So I told the rep that I saw the complaint too…but that was filed months ago prior to the name being dropped. I told them to do some research and they will see that I just registered the name with them a couple days ago.

    The rep told me that they don’t have the resource to do research. I felt so insecured…how can something I already paid for, can be taken away from me without even notifying me? I told the rep I’d like to close my account…and he was too happy to oblige to get rid of a troubled customer.

  7. I like Name.com as a registrar and have several domains there, but about that new design…

    I don’t understand change just for the sake of change.

    The new design looks very amateurish and unprofessional to me.

    The scribbling lines on the page are just awful IMO.

    As someone who deals with end users, I am hesitant to refer them to a site that looks like that.
