GoDaddy’s Rainbow Flag Seems to Have Upset Some Customers

June is LGBT Pride Month. Organizations and companies around the world are doing a variety of things to acknowledge and honor Pride Month, and a number of large companies are updating their Facebook, Twitter, and other social media icons with rainbow flag (or variants) to show support.

GoDaddy updated its Facebook photo icon with a rainbow flag design that seems to have drawn the ire of some of its apparent customers. The company also updated its Twitter icon as well. When GoDaddy updated its Facebook page with the new icon a few hours ago, the comments started coming in fast and fierce, and many of them seem to have voiced displeasure with this change:

Many of the “top” comments are from people proclaiming to be customers who are pledging to transfer their domain names and services to other providers. There are also plenty of people commenting in support of GoDaddy and its decision to change its Facebook icon to honor Pride Month.

It will be interesting to see if GoDaddy makes any official statement about the change. I will reach out to see if the company has any comment about why it changed its social media icons and how it would respond to criticism.

Thanks to Abdu Tarabichi for sharing this with me.

  1. Why do people get so worked up about a rainbow? Does your religion ban rainbows? Go get a safe space you snowflakes.
