GoDaddy Sponsoring & Participating in New ABC Show

GoDaddy will be sponsoring a new television show that will air on ABC. The show is called Steve Harvey’s Funderdome, and it will premier on ABC on Sunday, June 11 at 9pm. This is a reality television show where entrepreneurs will compete to receive funding. Here’s how the casting call described the new show:

“The inimitable Steve Harvey is hosting a new, groundbreaking show on ABC looking for great innovators and entrepreneurs to help fund their American dream. We’re looking for mom and pop businesses, unique and interesting products, or creative ideas that just need a little more money to jumpstart their next phase. You could win anywhere from $10,000 – $100,000, all you have to do is win over the live studio audience and convince them that you deserve to be funded.”

From my perspective, the most interesting aspect of the news is that GoDaddy is actually participating in the show, in addition to sponsoring it. I was told that GoDaddy’s Small Business Expert Shawn Pfunder will consult with contestants about their online presence throughout the season. Assuming the show is well received and completes its 13 episode series on ABC, I think this type of exposure will be helpful to the company in reaching its target audience.

Below is the press release that was shared with me. It has additional details about GoDaddy’s sponsorship and participation in the new series:

GODADDY HELPS SMALL BUSINESSES GO BIG AND IS A PROUD SPONSOR OF ‘STEVE HARVEY’S FUNDERDOME’ PREMIERING JUNE 11 ON ABC

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., June 1, 2017 – GoDaddy, the world’s largest cloud platform dedicated to small, independent ventures, today announced a 13-episode sponsorship of the new, primetime show “Steve Harvey’s FUNDERDOME.” GoDaddy will support small business inventors through expert coaching during custom vignettes. “Steve Harvey’s FUNDERDOME” will premiere Sunday, June 11 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

“Steve Harvey’s FUNDERDOME,” from Mark Burnett, is a seed-funding competition reality series where two up-and-coming inventors go head-to-head to win over a live studio audience to fund their ideas, products or companies. Each episode features small businesses with unique products or creative ideas that need funding to jumpstart their next phase. Inventors can win anywhere from $10,000 – $100,000 by going head-to-head and convincing the live studio audience that they deserve to be funded.

Custom vignettes will extend the show’s spirit and foundation into the commercial break where GoDaddy Small Business Expert Shawn Pfunder will consult with the inventors on how to create or improve their digital identity, which might include selling their products online or marketing their business. The 30-second vignettes will highlight GoDaddy’s products and services, with a focus on its new mobile-optimized website builder GoCentral, which lets anyone build a better website in under an hour.

“GoDaddy is committed to helping entrepreneurs achieve their dreams by turning ideas into reality, so it made perfect sense for us to play an important role in the show,” said Shawn Pfunder. “The grit, passion and innovation displayed by the inventors is awe-inspiring. GoDaddy’s goal is to meet them wherever they are in their business lifecycles, from early-stage idea to having product in-hand, and provide the best online products and advice to help them succeed.”

Throughout the season, fans of the show can head over to the GoDaddy Blog to learn more about the inventors, their business ideas, and the triumphs and challenges of building a successful venture. The blog will feature behind-the-scenes video interviews with each inventor, plus articles, eBooks, how-to tips and other resources for aspiring inventors.

Steve Harvey, the highly popular stand-up comedian, actor, author and Emmy Award-winning game show host, will host the series. Produced by MGM Television and internationally distributed by MGM, the executive producers are Mark Burnett, Leslie Garvin and Barry Poznick.

  1. Godaddy is really becoming horrible by the year… and now on full speed mode by the month. They recently included forced taxation without any notice, and if you are living abroad you can’t even know where is that tax going.
Also they recently made autorenew-off as the deffault settings on your new domain registrations. So by default any domain you register will expire unless you manually change the settings to autorenew-on. I guess Godaaddy probably prefers to see your domains expiring. I wonder why? I wonder what happens to a domain when it expires at Godaddy and how could Godaddy profit from it? hmm… let me think.
Again, you’d think they would notify you this change? NO. You have to discover it in shock how the new domain you registered is by default set to let expire!!! And they don’t even tell you!!! They disable such a safety feature without notice!! That is how much Godaddy protects your domains!!!
A few months ago they took credit card information and put it as the whois information. Would they notice customers of this? of course not. And when you try to change the whois info its darn hard and always gives error.
But wait, theres more! Try getting the TOS of Godaddy. Of course they would not send them to my email account!!! They will say only English is legally binding, but they wont even tell exactly which English files they mean (Pakistan/UAE/etc.) And when you download the various PDFs all you manage to get is just blank files. I cannot get the darn TOS under which I have my domains at Godaddy!!! There is just no way.
Conclusion: Godaddy just getting worse and worse. Anyone recommending a registrar that is safe and has competitive pricing? Uniregistry we all know and seems good, but anyother?
    Thank you

  2. ^that guy is off his rocker. domains & all other services are set up for auto renew. it even says it right before you hit the final checkout button.

also, credit card info on the WHOIS?!?! wtf is he talking about

  3. Through the years…and I’ve been in the “domain name game” for the better part of 2 decades…Godaddy, regardless of the stupid, brain dead antics and foul mouthed utters from it’s founder…is still the most transparent, ethical and readily accessible domain company to work with.

They have set up their corporate structure properly and hired the right people.

I can’t say that about any other domain registrar.

It makes me cringe to think of the shenanigans these registrars get away with. Recently had an issue with one of the bigger ones based in India. NONE of their phone numbers allowed you to talk to a real live person. Most simply auto hung-up on you. The best you could manage was leave a voice mail.

Anyways, I could write a book on all the headaches through the years of having to deal with incompetent, poorly run registrars. And that’s not talking about the downright thieves. As an example, one Israel based registrar kept a domain of mine that expired and never let it back into the “pool” to be auctioned off or renewed. Instead, they offered to sell it back to me for $5K. That was years ago when I was new and didn’t know better.

  4. I have a very good relationship with GoDaddy and use many of their products and services (domain registration, hosting, and auctions to name a few) . While there have been a few times I have been frustrated in my 14 years working with them, I can’t think of any time that an issue wasn’t resolved amicably.

I trust GoDaddy with close to half of my domain names, including several high value assets. I appreciate the support I am always given, and I know there are people at the company who are able to answer questions or direct me to the people who can expertly answer the questions. I am also appreciative of the company’s support of my blog.

  5. I’ve had nothing but favorable outcomes with Godaddy on EVERY issue I’ve ever had as their customer. Their commitment to Customer Service is unmatched.
