Frank Schilling Updates DNS Clients

I want to share an update Frank Schilling gave to DomainNameSales.com clients this afternoon. There were a few platform changes that were announced, and Frank also provided an update on the launch of the Uniregistry domain registrar, which is coming on February 28, 2014.

With Frank’s permission, I have posted the DNS client update in its entirety below. If you have questions or comments about the update, you are welcome to share them here, although you may be better off posing the questions directly to DomainNameSale and/or Frank.

Here is Frank’s update:

Happy New Year! This is going to be a year of monumental change for us all. Firstly, in regard to DNS, The DNS platform is unique because it lets you self-broker your sales, and negotiate via the DNS iPhone app. You can set buy-it-now prices on all of your low value (under $1500) domain names and directly field inquiries with preset email templates via your iPhone while you’re on the mountain, at the beach or in your car (hopefully in the passenger seat). : ) You can also insert any broker you choose (on leads generated from your own domains), and we sincerely thank all our customers who have chosen DNS to act as their broker.

We have a team of 19 brokers here in Grand Cayman and we realize what our strengths are. Selling names is hard work. On average, our brokers spend 4 hours on each closed deal. Our average sale price is in the vicinity of $15,000 per sale. Effective February 15th we will need to charge minimum commissions of $175 per sale. If you have domain names that are very low priced (under $1500), you can continue to sell them yourself without charge, but if you require DNS to take phone calls, do manual work and hand-hold your low price deals to completion we will need to apply this minimum charge.

On February 28th we will be launching our new registrar at Uniregistry.com. The birth of our registrar will usher in a fleet of positive changes for you. In the near future, Uniregistry customers will be able to sell their names (of all prices) at lower cost. As a Uniregistry preferred customer you will be able to create payment plan sales on your premium names at DNS, just as I do.. You will be able to use our credit card merchant services to sell (or finance) your domain names with instant completion (no escrow required). Uniregistry intends to offer com, net, org, all material CCTlds and all relevant new GTLDs under one roof. You will be able to safe-keep all your names in one easy to use management interface. This is not a light registrar. We have been working on Uniregistry for a long time and hope it will be the best funded, most registrant centric new registrar offering, ever.

We have additional changes in the works to allow you to profit from your relationship with us and intend to roll those out in the coming months.

I’m looking forward to serving you beginning Feb 28th.

Thanks sincerely, Frank.

  1. Got the notification, seems very fair to me.

I have only but one major complaint still. If you choose to have them act as the broker and do all these things they deserve pay for… they should be more prompt.

This is now another time which has reached day 3 and my assigned broker has yet to quote the potential buyer.

Honestly it is ridiculous since their replies look automated and they fill in a blank, fine should save time.

Frank needs to let each “broker” know a good broker doesn’t wait 3+ day to reply or they shouldn’t be a broker.

    • I agree with you about it being a fair increase.

I can’t blame him for increasing the minimum commision rate because it takes brokers a similar amount of time to close these deals than $50k+ deals with far less of a commission potential.

    • Josh,

My name is Jeffrey Gabriel. I am the Vice President of Sales at DomainNameSales.com. I read your feedback, and we want to do better. Can you please email me the domain name that the 3 day wait was associated with, and I will look into this?

I would like to speak to the Broker, and make sure your expectations are met, or we move some of his or her work to someone else who has more bandwidth.

Anyone else please call or email me anytime if this occurs jeff@domainnamesales.com 1-800-818-1828 X8

      • Some brokers may have a philosophy that it is better to let people who inquire wait a couple of days before responding in an effort to not seem desperate. I don’t know if that is the case here, but it’s possible. I personally don’t like dealing with inquiries over the weekend since many business owners and corporate end users don’t answer emails over the weekend, and a Friday email may get lost in the Monday morning hustle.

I would send a note to Jeff (per his prior comment) and ask him to look into it.

  2. I will give him until tomorrow morning Jeff and if no action will email you.

Curious, do the brokers work Saturday and Sundays or is it a personal choice?

    This may be the reason.

    • Josh,

I wrote you an email tied to your account, and would like to know the Domain so I can look into it. It is very hard to go backwards and look for it the way your suggesting. Could you please get back to me so I can fix it for you, and potentially our other customers if there is an issue?

Our Brokerage is open 7AM-7PM Monday-Friday in our office. On the weekends the Brokers do work from Home and are encouraged to. They are supposed to be treating their leads and opportunities as their own business. They are permitted to go on vacation, take weekend trips and have fun from time to time as well!

      T,

Since I do not know who you are or the domains you are speaking about I would be happy to look into this, but I cannot. Can you please contact me? Jeff@domainnamesales.com 1-800-818-1828 x8 Thank you.

  3. I welcome the change, i´m very curious to see what the registrar will look like especially from a pricing standpoint. Might be moving my domains there in the future, since then it really is a one stop shop.

As for the $175 minimum fair enough.

  4. I don’t mind the change at all. Although I haven’t made a sale on it yet, I’m very happy with the platform, the possibilities it offers and the way inbound inquires are handled. Thanks!

  5. I did get this notification & I do think the minimum charge is fair for these sales exceeding $1000. However I now have own marketplace DomainsFeast.com selling some good .com’s domains for much below $1000 each & therefore giving the buyers good value & without commission, or otherwise it can be really hard to sell such high value domains unless ultra-premium ones of course!
