My Favorite Type of Sedo Listing

Sedo Sales Price

As I’ve discussed in the past, there are a number of ways people can list domain names for sale at Sedo. They can request offers, post a “listing price” that doesn’t have to be in the ballpark, they can have a buy it now sales price, and they can also have my favorite type of Sedo listing, which I’ve shared an image of above.

There are a couple of things I like and respect about this type of sale listing.

First, I can buy it for the listed price, no questions asked. I don’t have to inject myself into a possibly frustrating negotiation, and I don’t have to hope that the buyer honors the price he is asking. If I click the buy now button, the seller and I are locked into a contract, and I can take him to court if he backs out.

Second, I have the option to negotiate if I want to do that. Maybe I don’t think it’s worth the asking price, or perhaps I just want to get a better deal than the listing price. Whatever the case may be, I know I can make an offer and forego the BIN price. In doing this, I also know that I could lose out on the BIN price if the seller wishes to remove it. In essence, I am passing on the BIN price hoping for a better deal. It’s a risk I can decide whether or not to take.

When it comes to listings on Sedo, I appreciate it when there is a Buy it Now price listed so I can choose whether the domain name is worth it or not. I like it even more when I have the option to buy it for the listed price or try my luck negotiating.

From the seller’s perspective, this is a good option in case he finds someone who wants it for that price. Personally, I would err on the high side of what I think it’s worth and hope that someone who can’t afford my buy it now price will at least negotiate, knowing in the back of his mind what I am asking.

As a buyer, I wish everyone listed domain names on Sedo like this. As a seller, I think it’s a good option if your Buy it Now price is on the high side.

  1. For most of my domains I prefer fixed price listings as it eliminates the $100 offers. On the other hand, even for domains with $XXX prices I still get the occasional individual who can’t manage to pay that and still makes an even lower offer (via Whois contact). Sorry, that’s why I set fixed prices…

  2. Is the option to have both a buy now price and Make best offer on the same listing only open to special accounts with Sedo? I am only offered one option or the other for each domain through my Sedo dashboard…

  3. Hi Elliot & Chris,

The Buy Now or Best Offer feature is currently in its Beta phase, so it is not open to all Sedo users.

If you’re interested in being a part of the exclusive Beta test, please get in touch with your Account Manager at Sedo, or send us an email at feedback@sedo.com.

    Thanks,
    Daniel at Sedo

  4. One thing I wish SEDO, Godaddy and Afternic would offer would be monthly leases. Perhaps many potential buyers prefer an outright purchase but the reluctance to part with cash might be allayed if the price were broken down into monthly payments over a multi-year timeframe.

    • Every time a lease or rent to own situation has come up, there have been lots of contractual issues. I assume these issues could make those types of deals less appealing to aftermarket companies, especially if the deal gets cancelled after a month and commission rate is very low.

    • Leasing can be very complicated and messy so I understand why Sedo would not want to get involved with that.

Rick Schwartz seems to have figured it out, ask Rick to be included in his domain leasing venture.

  5. You can already set a price and set the domain to ‘make an offer’ to have both as well.

This just seems to be a different way of having both the ability to add a price and accept offers.

I’m not a fan of fixed price listings though, they’re overrated… all they do is put a ceiling on your asking price.

  6. I use this Sedo listing for selected domains and potential buyers can either buy at the fixed (buy now) price or make the best offer. I can also set a minimum price. Did have domains sold at the buy now price. Be aware that buyers/sellers may not get to send comments with offers/counter offers.
