Ebay Keywords With Domain Names Appearing First

I was curious to see what the most expensive men’s watch listed for sale on Ebay, so I searched for “watch” and had the results listed by highest price first. I was surprised to see that the highest priced auction for the “watch” keyword was actually a domain name.

I wanted to see what other keywords had domain names as the highest result, so I checked out a bunch of keywords. Sort of surprisingly (and no wonder people don’t like domain investors), there were a lot of domain names listed as the highest price auction for a variety of keywords.

Here are a bunch of keywords I searched where a domain name was the highest priced item:

I am sure there are many more, but I got tired of looking for them. For some reason, I don’t think many of these names will sell.

  1. With all the recent changes on eBay, the games are becoming THE thing. The little guys, like me and million so others, are being forced out to other venues, such as Amazon. Too many restrictions and little chance of getting a good search position mean fewer sales. I use eBay, now, only for that occasional item that can’t be listed on Amazon. Keywords are ALL IMPORTANT, but as you’ve found, if you own the domain you are severely limited in what you can put in your item title. You are NOT supposed to use brand names! It’s possible they are violating the TOS of eBay and this could be a reportable offense. I don’t sell there much now, or I might persue that.

  3. That method isn’t something I am very fond of, but I bet it does work to an extent. However, I’m sure the offers they receive are a mere fraction of what they are asking.

  4. Djeez, this just makes me sick. How can anyone even bring themselves to advertise FantasyFootballLeague.com for £60,000? Or DiamondsListed.com for $21,000,000? And while misrepresenting the name in the header, too (btw, misleading titles can be reported to eBay: Report item – Listing Practices – Search and browse manipulation – Misleading title.)

This both makes a mockery out of domaining and clogs up ebay for buyers – and to absolutely no avail. It’s not like the domains are gonna sell at the advertised prices or anywhere near, and there is no shock effect to be had either since the bay is virtually teeming with such ads. The only result is a growing distrust and contempt towards domainers.

  5. If there’s wrongdoing being done…
Report it… Some people’s MO make me sick… When you look closer – it’s the ones that are scraping by – unsuccessful and willing to do ANYTHING… not the type person I would even let walk my dog…

Can you tell I’m in a bad mood today… ??
    I feel better now though…

  6. Well yea; but what most get’s my dander up is that as quick as I buy those $1+ million junk domains to help “clean up” eBay, others post new “junkillion” domains to replace them.

Don’t know how much longer I can fight this battle all alone before I run out of money.

    Please help! 😉
