Donuts’ First New gTLD Sunrise Begins

Donuts is one of the largest new gTLD applicants, and this morning, the sunrise period for seven of its new gTLD extensions has opened. Beginning today, trademark owners are able to register domain names that match their trademark(s) at a domain registrar like 101 Domain  (visit their website for pricing and other important details).

According to the Donuts website, the following new gTLDs began their sunrise period today, November 26:

  • .Ventures
  • .Singles
  • .Bike
  • .Holdings
  • .Plumbing
  • .Guru
  • .Clothing

My guess would be that .Ventures and .Holdings will be the most registered domain names during the sunrise period since these terms cross multiple industries and businesses.

The Sunrise period ends for these domain names on January 24, 2014 and general availability (when anyone can register domain names) begins on January 29, 2014.

    • None… it’s the sunrise period.

I wouldn’t be opposed to registering a good .holdings name for a company if I got a great one word name that was the company name – ie Silver.Holdings for Silver Holdings (for example).

I wouldn’t pay a premium for any at this point in time.
