We Don’t Work Together

I think the biggest criticism that domain industry bloggers hear / read is that the same information is posted on multiple websites. If .Club or Sedo issues a press release or contacts writers directly with something newsworthy, it is highly likely that several writers will publish an article. These similar articles (sometimes with the same headlines even) all show up consecutively on Domaining.com, and it gets people irritated for some reason. I am sure the same can be said about other, non-domain business publications that cover the same industry or field.

Most domain name writers/bloggers work independently. There are a couple of people who write for multiple websites, but for the most part, we each have our own website where we write. I can’t speak for others, but I hardly ever chat with other people who also operate blogs / news websites in the domain space. Put simply, when I receive a bit of news or I find something interesting to write about, I don’t ask anyone else if they are also writing about a specific topic.

For me to write an article, I need to either think the news is interesting to me or would be interesting to readers. I also need to be available at the time the information is noteworthy or newsworthy. I try not to write about the same topic as someone else if I see it first on Domaining.com unless I think I have a different take or have something else to add to the story. If I am in the middle of writing an article and someone else published something first, I will almost always hit publish on my article so I don’t waste the time I already spent.

I understand that it can be annoying to see 5 articles about the same PR or news. I don’t like spending time writing an article only to see 5 other articles that will also compete for the same eyeballs. Essentially, if I write something that others already wrote about, fewer people will read it. I am sure other large publications have the same issues, but people would not complain that the NY Post wrote an article about the same news as the Washington Post.

I am almost always going to write about something I find newsworthy whether or not others wrote about it. I think the alternative of fewer motivated writers is far worse than an overabundance of the same topic.

    • Hello Elliot,

This is a touchy subject, that you have addressed. There is lots of anger going round because there are so many Carpetbaggers infiltrating the Domaining Space.
Lots of this anger could turn to joy if domainers buy and sell the right Assets = ( .COM Equimoditty Platform Asset Class )and Blogs are up front with their advice.

  1. I’m ok with the duplicative content posted by the bloggers. It’s the annoying – and usually, arrogant – commenters that say stupid crap or claim superior intelligence or clairvoyance (“I predicted this would happen on another blog”, etc.) and otherwise overestimate their importance to the industry or even to the conversation at hand. Some just mumble useless nonsense that adds no value at all. I could also do without the annoying, useless signatures that one or two commenters use repeatedly that add no value and are just a waste of my eyeball muscles to read. I think the bloggers could do a better job of moderating or editing away some of these comments or commenters to improve the overall quality of the conversations on their blogs.

  4. I don’t think it’s a big deal.

I think it’s better that the same news is published on multiple blogs because say you miss a post on a certain blog, you can always catch it on another.

It’s no different from general news sites. They all publish the same news but no one complains about that.

  5. Hello Francois,

Thank you for bringing domainers to face reality and restore SANITY on your wonderful Platform. You will be vindicated in the future for your timely decision. Happy New Year Francois. JAS

  8. I’m wondering what Jeff Schneider tries to convey with his signature.
Judging from his website, I’ll say it’s not impressive at all.
Furthermore, a person with that signature have to know to check spelling before publishing.
