Domain Market Sells $36k in Domain Names

DomainMarket.comMike Mann’s DomainMarket.com sold around $36,000 in publicly reported domain sales last week. The high sale of the week was ThreeDiamond.com, which was sold for $10,000. The Whois has not changed for many of these domain names yet, since they are likely pending transfer.

One thing I think Mann does right is that each domain name resolves to a “for sale” landing page, which also has sponsored results PPC links. I would bet that many small business owners have no clue about the Whois database, and they visit the domain name they are interested in buying to see if it’s available. With a huge “Buy” call to action right on the page, it’s easy to see the domain name is for sale.

This is something you might want to consider on your low revenue, undeveloped domain names that you’re looking to sell.

Below are the company’s reported sales:

  1. Pure game of volume. 29 domains reported sold out of 163,000 +

Similar process to what HugeDomains.com does with around 230K ish domains.

    Congrats!

  2. I am always surprised to see these City+Realtor.com domains sell. Realtors themselves can not even use the word Realtor in their domain names unless only after their name as it is a trademark problem. The Realtor association has a strict policy forbidding members from using it in their domain names. Any agent who bought that name will risk giving it right back to the association. You can only use the name of the agent+Realtor.com not city+Realtor.com or adjective+Realtor.com

  3. @Joe,

Hand registered “in a way”. MM is using a registrar to grab drops, so it’s like a “backorder” really, minus the need to bid when the domain is grabbed.

  4. What a crappy list of domains.

I suppose it does take volume to sell crap like this.

Not trying to be harsh, just realistic.

    SmileForPeace,com ? Sheesh!

    .

  5. I’ve been using sales landing pages for a decade. With the decline in parking income, we rarely park at all anymore. Have done a lot of experimenting and any ads on landing pages cuts down on the number of sales leads.

FYI, our portfolio isn’t anywhere near the size of Mike Mann’s but we’re selling as many, if not more, domains per week than that.

Here’s an example of what our selling pages look like:
