Diamante Eco Adventure Park: a Great Day for the Family

My family and I just returned from a week-long vacation on the beach in Tamarindo, Costa Rica. Tamarindo is one of my favorite places to visit. The people are super-nice, there are plenty of food options, most locals speak English, and it is a relaxed town. We love visiting Costa Rica, and especially the town of Tamarindo.

After making our travel plans, I remembered that Monte Cahn mentioned something about spending time in Costa Rica. I reached out to Monte to ask if he would be in Costa Rica while we were down there. Unfortunately, Monte was in Florida, but he told me about a non-domain industry investment of his: Diamante Eco Adventure Park. He thought my family would love it, especially the kids.

I looked at Diamante’s website, and I was sold after watching the video on the home page. In addition to zip lining, ATV riding, and horseback riding, there is an animal sanctuary and botanical garden. I instantly knew the animal sanctuary would be a big hit with my kids. There were all types of local animals – from monkeys and sloths to a puma and a jaguar. There is also a butterfly sanctuary. I told Monte we were in, and he told me he wanted to treat my family to a day at the Park.

Last Tuesday, we took an hour-long van ride to Diamante. When we arrived, the people were expecting us and greeted us like we were longtime friends. I would say we received special treatment because of Monte, but the staff seemed friendly to all of their guests.

My wife started out with the hour-long zip line adventure, and I took the kids to the animal sanctuary.

Our 6-year-old daughter LOVED the butterfly garden. It was almost like a fantasy for her with thousands of butterflies flying around us. The butterflies were quick to land on welcoming fingers, and they fluttered their wings around us. She thought it was magical. It was also nice that some of the Diamante team told us about the butterflies and showed us their cocoons. My daughter read a book about butterflies before we came, so this information was appreciated.

Our 3 year-old son also liked the butterflies, but his favorite part was seeing (and hearing) the monkeys. Not only does Diamante have several species of monkeys, but there are also howler monkeys that call the trees inside the Park their home.

My wife loved the zip lines. Diamante prides itself on its Superman zip line, which is almost one mile long and gives participants the feeling of flying through the air while looking at the ocean. She thought that was awesome and unlike anything she has ever done before. I am not a huge fan of heights, so I stayed with the kids and loved to see them smile all day. The snack bar with natural popsicles and coconuts was an appreciated rest stop for us.

After my wife did her zip line adventure, we all toured the animal sanctuary together. There were many other people also enjoying the Park, but I never felt that it was crowded. In fact, when we went through the frog, parrot, and toucan sections, we explored them on our own, aside from the employees who told us about the different animals.

After spending time with the animals, we went for lunch at the Park. One of the nice things is that they offer an all you can eat buffet in a covered area that is out of the heat. There were plenty of food options ranging from grilled chicken and rice to salad to pizza. There were also cold juices and water.

Our next stop was the beach (Playa Matapalo), which is next to the Hotel Riu Guanacaste. My kids loved relaxing in the shaded hammocks hanging from the trees on the beach. The water was a bit rough on the day we were there, so we spent our time enjoying the beach rather than the water. It looks like Diamante has some water activity options when the ocean is less rough. I think they offer stand up paddleboarding and kayaking. They also have life vests for those who want to go in the water. The beach (right in front of the ocean) is a bit rocky, so I would recommend bringing water shoes.

The final stop at the Park (not open to the public), was another investment of Monte’s. At the top of the Park, there is a beautiful home overlooking the Park and the ocean. It offered unparalleled and unobstructed views of the entire area. The house was rented while we were there so we couldn’t go inside, but we took advantage of the view to get a few family photos to remember the day.

I am obviously a bit biased, but I highly recommend visiting Diamante Eco Adventure Park if you are looking for a fun day while in the Guanacaste area. There are activities for people of all ages, and I would have gone even if Monte didn’t offer to treat us. In fact, the day before we visited, we met another family from Massachusetts who had teenagers, and they had a great time at the Park and gave us a couple of tips.

On our next visit to Tamarindo next year, we will be back to Diamante. Perhaps our kids will be old enough for the ATV rides or horseback riding. Even if they aren’t old enough, I know it will be a fun day for all of us. Maybe I will even go out on the Superman zip line!

  1. Sounds like a great place and a good spot to visit someday. Also seems like there’s a lot of fun things to do and see there, and that you and your family all had a great time. The zip line your wife did would be neat to do, but at first you noted it was an hour long adventure, which gave pause to wonder either – how ‘long’ it was or how ‘slow’ it was. But I’m sure it was fun, and glad she enjoyed it.
