Contest Update

I want to thank those of you who submitted domain names for the contest I started earlier this week to try and help sell the winning domain name using a Domaining.com sponsored headline. Far more entries were received than I anticipated, and I appreciate your enthusiasm. At least one name that was listed has already been sold in private.

Instead of choosing the winner myself, I am going to make this a bit more democratic, and I appreciate the advice a couple of people gave me. I will choose what I believe are then ten best domain names at the best prices (what I think have the most  realistic  chance of selling given the venue and audience), and I will set up a poll for visitors to choose the winner.

I will post the poll on Saturday morning and keep it open through Sunday night.

Thank you again for participating, and I hope you will vote beginning tomorrow morning.

  1. @Daniel,

That would be very generous of Elliot considering the Domaining.com headlines aren’t cheap. I believe he’s just demonstrating this one time that they can be effective.

I’ve received a couple offers on the domain I submitted and I’m sure it’s due to being posted here.

I like your submission. I made the opening offer via Sedo, and the owner sent it to auction. Out of spite, I did not bid any higher because it’s frustrating when a domain owner takes a private negotiation and turns it into a public auction. My loss I suppose.

  3. Hi Elliot, just came across this, too later to enter your contest? If not, I have JIFFYCART.com I may want to sell.

If I’m too late, it wouldn’t be the first time, lol.

it was tempting for me to post a domain just for that reason, but I truthfully didnt think I had one that was quite the caliber and at a great price that Elliot was looking for so i didn’t want to be disrespectful. good luck to anyone that did enter

Thanks. I was surprised to learn you bid on it when you posted it the other day. I had no idea and yes, I noticed that domain while it was at auction. That’s one of the downsides of buying there.

  6. @ Rod

Maybe I will. As I mentioned, I was the one who bid on it initially but opted not to bid higher. Frankly and honestly, there isn’t much margin between Bill’s price and the auction sale price, so there may be a reason why he didn’t sell it yet.

  7. Probably because I never priced it until now. Always had it earmarked for development. The margin is thin but still a profit. I thought Elliot was on to something with this and I wanted to put up something solid at a reasonable reseller price to have my best chance at getting it noticed.

I’ve got plenty of other domains and a website that could possibly benefit from the exposure Elliot’s experiment would bring so that all went into the choice and price.

  8. Sorry Elliot. I got a bit too excited over my domain names, and broke your rules.

I didn’t think you would list them, let alone they will sell.
At least not yet. You don’t sell a multi million dollar domain name with 1 domaining sponsored headline. At least I hope not. Because it would violate every rules I have learned from you and the other domain pros.

But, it would make a heck of a story wouldn’t it? 🙂
