Contest! Make $50 by Selling Me Your Crappiest Domain Name

We all have crappy domain names in our portfolio. Maybe we were a bit buzzed when we registered them, had spelling problems, or there were other reasons for registering these crappy domain names. ย Well, now’s your chance to make $50 from your most terrible .com domain name.

Here’s how it will work:

  • Everyone is entitled to submit just one horrible .com domain name they own
  • Submitted domain names must have been registered prior to February 1, 2011
  • On Friday morning (3/4), I will pick out the 5 worst domain names (in my opinion) and set up a poll
  • People can vote in the poll, which will close on Sunday night at around 10pm (one vote per IP)
  • I will then pay $50 via Paypal for the worst domain name, as voted by blog readers, and the winner will push the domain name to me.

So, look through your domain portfolios and select your absolute worst .com domain name and post it in the comment section (No trademark infringing names). If you post more than one bad domain name, you will be disqualified because I don’t want to have to sift through your bad names and pick the worst one!

When was the last time you made $50 from your crappiest domain name?

If you have any questions, post them here.

  1. What a great idea for a contest! I look forward to seeing the entries. I think I’m too emotionally attached to my crappiest domain name to enter it into the contest, but I’ll think about it. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. If this qualifies it will be a contender. This name was made for this contest.

I literally picked it up on sunday Jan 30th 2011 – just made the deadline. It expired at the registrar and I grabbed it for $50. I thought I was buying a good aged keyword domain. I do well with keyword dashes, nets and orgs in the SE’s for my adult sites, so this should have been an end user deal. I might have had a bit to drink, lol. I am not dyslexic and I spell better than this usually. The real winner is the original registrant that let the domain expire but had held on to it since 2001.

And the winner might be – Drum roll…

    Balck-Porn.com

A mispelled hyphentated $50 domain, lol. Bail me out Elliot.

    Thanks for the fun post,

    Mark

  3. I think I have a pretty crappy domain name but since domain has public whois info. (ugh, I know that wasn’t too wise) I’d rather email it do you directly.

  4. @ Elliot Silver

I’ll cross that bridge if it comes to it. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m sure there’s some strong competition for crappy domain names.

  5. ElliotsBlogSucks.com

This has nothing to do with my email…just wondered why no one thought of it yet :).

Actually this might qualify as a “best” domain eheheh

  6. @ Elliot

    SO?

The TWIST will be that you are going turn it around

and sell it for MORE as a challenge! “IS THIS SO’

    Maybe?

  7. @ Jon

It can’t be trademarks because I don’t want to risk getting a UDRP or lawsuit on a fun $50 contest… sorry, thought that was obvious.

Regarding the other thing, do you guys really think I want to spend time and effort selling a name my readers deem to be the crappiest of crappy domain names? Sounds like a lot of time for very little payoff.

I have enough of my own names to sell to keep me busy.

  8. “How about mineโ€ฆ

    http://www.BullShitWebsites.com

This domain/ site has given me so much pleasure and best of all making money!!!”

    ————————————-

Please, please, please buy his Elliot. Just imagine, for a mere $50 you could stop him from filling various blogs with “bullshit” comments!

    =)

  9. My worst is traffictastic.com made up of traffic and fantastic. I was going to use this to resell traffic but never got around to it. Loads of searches on this term obviously.

  10. Two months ago I win this hands down with 50 different domains… Luckily I don’t have them anymore. Still have a couple stragglers in other extensions, but I don’t ***think*** I have any that can compete with these. Fun contest idea though!

  11. Damn…

I thought I was a hands down winner with my “bored – nothing to do in between the playoffs and superbowl – drunk on sunday” typo hyphenated Balck-Porn.com that cost me $50 on a drop.

But I think some of the sober hand reg’s beat me “hands (reg)” down and that is a sobering thought…

  12. LoanShed.com

When I regged it, I thought it was pretty cool. But come to think of it, who on earth would want to go to a shed in order to loan money?

  13. I’ve gotten rid of a lot of my bad names, but I still have shadelamps.com.
Not sure if that’s really worse than singleshelf.com, but that’s the one I’ll go with…

  14. dealsnaggr.com
    desktreats.com

My best contest entry does not qualify (registered on Feb 8), but here it is … getoffthedamncomputer.com

  15. Hi,
    Here’s my entry:

    LoBoyEnterprises.com

If there’s anybody who think that this domain is not crappy, please let me know.. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Sam

  16. What’s with people double posting domains? They forget they already posted? I say disqualify them all for being jackasses!

Then again perhaps that’s why they registered such domains in the first place?
