Burbank.com Partnership Announced

In July, I blogged about the City in a Box platform offered by Fred Mercaldo and his team at Scottsdale.com. A few people asked me if I would be willing to use the platform on one of my websites. I can finally answer that question today.

One of the reasons I flew out to California for Domain Fest was to finalize a couple of deals that have been pending. I am happy to announce that one of the deals has been finalized, and I will be engaging in a marketing/content partnership with Scottsdale.com (see press release below).

Scottsdale.com is one of my favorite developed geodomain names, and I have always admired Fred Mercaldo’s team. They have a great sales staff, and they are clearly experts when it comes to geodomain development and monetization. I am very lucky to be able to work with them on one of my more valuable domain assets.

I’ve known Fred since the Geodomain Expo in Chicago, and I am excited to be working with him on this project.

Silver Internet Ventures, LLC Announces Partnership with Scottsdale.com, LLC

Companies agree to marketing, advertising, and content distribution partnership for Burbank.com using City in a Box platform

SANTA MONICA, CA (January 26, 2010) – Silver Internet Ventures, LLC and Scottsdale.com, LLC announce a marketing, advertising, and content distribution partnership on Burbank.com, a domain name owned and operated by Silver Internet Ventures. The new website will be built on Scottsdale.com’s proprietary City in a Box platform, and the sales and marketing team at Scottsdale.com will manage sales and content on the website.

“In the year and a half the company has owned Burbank.com, traffic has grown from a few hundred visitors a month to several thousand,” said Elliot J. Silver of Silver Internet Ventures. “As a result of living across the country, it’s been difficult to manage content and ad sales. The Scottsdale.com team has a great sales staff, and they will serve the Burbank market in ways I can’t. This partnership is something I am excited about, and I look forward to working with the Scottsdale.com team.”

“We are very excited to take on the Burbank.com project.   Personally, I have spent a significant amount of time there over the years, and have a pretty good feel about the city and what it has to offer. Billed as the “Media Capital of the World”, it truly is a hub of the entertainment industry, but it is neighborhoods too, and home to over 100,000 PLUS people,” said Fred Mercaldo, of Scottsdale.com.   “We are pleased to be Elliot’s choice to both develop and monetize his Burbank.com asset, and we will exceed his expectations!”

Mercaldo continued, “we will do our best to make Burbank.com a resource that the locals will come to rely on, along with providing visitors a robust site for planning their studio and entertainment industry visits.   Our ‘City In A Box’ software solution is a perfect fit for this site, and we will be announcing a major initiative within the week that will detail our aggressive growth plans for over 30 GeoDomain markets in the US.   Examples of our software can be reviewed at sites such as Palermo.com, Chandler.com, Sunnyvale.com, and more.”

The new Burbank.com website will be launched by April 15, 2010. Companies who are interested in advertising on the new website should email the sales team at sales@burbank.com. A representative will contact you shortly.

  1. Congratulations to Elliot and Fred. The press release sounds great. Partnering with a sales team would in my estimation be the best next step in the evolution of Burbank.com. This mirrors my own eventual goal for geo domains. So I’m curious to see how this works out for Elliot.

  2. Quote: “don’t want to speak for Elliot, but I am pretty sure it is revenue sharing agreement.”

I just look at it as a group of people working together to earn a buck via the same method. This isn’t like Ford and Chevy type of parternship (just using them as an example).

    Anyways. The best of luck.

  3. Congratulations Elliot. I think this could help make-up for you not being out there. I know Fred’s expertise will help you take the next step in Burbank.com’s developmernt. Good move.

  4. Wow, what nice looking sites. The directory listings are all inclusive.
The whole “city in a box” concept is great.
Getting advertisers, I assume, is not incredibly difficult for the owners,eh?

  5. Everyone….thanks for all the great comments. Regarding the advertisers…we have a system that we have developed over the years that is based upon Directory premium listings and Directory Partners/Sponsors. There are just so few quality banner ad spaces on home pages that we, early on in the first few years of developing Scottsdale.com, concentrated on the Directory pages. We also have many things we do to get a presence in each community, all with trade or little or no cost. Elliot and I have discussed revenue projections in detail, and I believe we will exceed them within 12 month of launching. We are very proud to be his choice of partners, and won’t let him down.

  6. I am considering partnering for development of my geo domain Cancun.org.

It is the most popular tourist destination in all of Mexico and brings in millions of tourists per year.

I am currently developing a geo domain for a city in Arizona and it is developed around the idea of directory listings bringing in the most revenue, like Fred says. But with a huge resort opportunity that is Cancun.org I don’t think that a regular directory will really be the way to go.

If anyone wants to contact me about a possible partnership then shoot me an email at thallewell@hotmail.com.

I hope I am not abusing your post Elliot by stating this. I do feel to congratulate you on a smart decsion to partner.

  7. Congrats Elliot! Delayed comment.

I think this is a wise move and let a big geo owner and development team do this right imo. Having a geo owner, domainer and developer only will make this more of a success and gain traction. No offense to your other web guy on burbank.com but it sounded like a pain to manage. He did a wonderful job on your dog site.

Congrats again Elliot. Other big geo owners need to follow elliots move and I’m sure time will tell.

Ps I think I know one of your huge private sales and you don’t keep private registration at moniker lol. Hope you got big xx, xxx on this and you announce it!

  8. See my response to to Michael above. It’s all about holding “themed” auctions and grouping relevant domains together and contacting the market publications for those business categories.
I don’t expect anyone to hand promote each domain individually for only 10-15%. I wouldn’t do that either! lol

    • @ Pete

Just got a note from Fred at Scottsdale.com:

“We are transitioning our phone systems and carrier, and missed our timing by about a week….new numbers will be active by next week….no biggie”

Incidentally, I’ve been working with them for the last few days on the re-launch of Burbank.com, and I couldn’t be more excited.

  9. ““We are transitioning our phone systems and carrier, and missed our timing by about a week….new numbers will be active by next week….no biggie””

3 days of non active numbers is “no biggie”?

Tell him to go pick up a throwaway number at Kall8.com, forward it to his cell phone and and slap it on the site for the next three days. Hopefully that will ensure that he does not lose any business.

I am still excited to see the new Burbank.com.

Still looking for a partner on Cancun.org=)

(although partner or not I think I will put it up in the next 6 months, my major AZ site should be doing just fine by then=))
