Associated Cities Membership & GeoDomain Expo Growth

What a great day today! Not only did I book my flight to Chicago for next month’s GeoDomain Expo, I also just heard from Patrick Carlton (Executive Director of Associated Cities), and Lowell.com was approved to become a member of Associated Cities. This is exciting news, and I look forward to contributing to that organization and learning from the members who have experience in developing and making money from their geodomain names.
I also had a conversation with David Castello who informed me that ticket sales for the 2008 GeoDomain Expo are 200% higher than last year. This is also great news because it means I can learn from and share with more likeminded people. I don’t know the exact number of people who are attending, but I hope they don’t run out of space! Knowing the Castello Brothers, Dan Pulcrano, Jess Bookstaff and many others in the geo space, I don’t think I am going to get much sleep during the conference.
If you haven’t had a chance to register for the GeoDomain Expo, I recommend that you do it ASAP. The cost of flying to Chicago is rising, so it’s in your best interest to book soon.   The cost of attending the show is $695, which is less than most domain conferences, and the convention hotel is less than $250.

  1. Congrats on Lowell.com’s acceptance by Associated Cities Elliot. They have a great organization and I love their model of members helping other members get ahead. Looking forward to seeing you in Chicago next month. Looks like this is shaping up to be a great event. I thoroughly enjoyed the one in San Francisco last November and it looks like they will have 2-3 times more people this time so there is going to be some real electricity in the air. Chicago is a great location too – always thought one of the mainstream conferences should go there but now the GeoDomain Expo is staking out that turf for themselves. Another good move by Associated Cities.

Thanks! I agree 100%, and looking forward to seeing you and Mrs. Jackson as well (hopefully she will be attending!). It seems that many of the members are really happy to help others – even non-members. Most don’t view others in the space as competitors, so there is quite a bit of sharing amongst members. It’s very good for the industry. I would even venture to say that the geo-niche is the tightest community within the domain industry.

Agree Elliot. The concept of what is happening with this group of people is going straight after the future of Google and YouTube. We are in a league of our own whereas we are connecting the D.O.T.S.
    Developed – Organized – Trafficked – Sites
This is Google and YouTube’s Achilles Heel. They have provided a need that the mass public was in unison in looking for. But they lack a local foothold that only geo specific entrepreneurs can produce. Either they fractionalize with these content owners or lose market share. What we have accomplished are relationships with our advertising clientele and web visitors on a local level. Those are long term bonds that can not be easily broken.
The public wants efficiency on the internet and currently Google and YouTube produce for those needs but visitors are getting more internet savvy and are drilling down to find this local connection and content. That is much more personable and emotional which a large top heavy corporate umbrella cannot produce effectively unless they partner up. I believe with AC we are seeing the future formula of individual empowerment and communication. This is what the internet was originally created for. It has its course and we would be smart to follow.

  3. Congratulations on the Associated Cities Membership, Elliot. You, of anyone, deserve it.
I am hoping that we are not far behind you. We are very close to a quality geo acquisition of our own that our group is very excited about. I’m hoping we complete and can announce soon so that we can attend the conference and learn from the best as we embark on a new venture in the geo space. Would love to meet all of you there with a virgin domain worth serious discussion.
